England Vs. Paraguay World Cup Fever!

Who will win? We soon shall see. It better be England thats all I can say!

It surprising the effect its had on the country, the streets are empty, even Gordon Brown (our Scottish Chancellor) has, according to some been flying the cross of St. George and David Cameron has been flying a little one on his bike. And I bet must of you in Canada and the USA haven't even noticed!

They are going bonkers outside. Why can't England have a nicer flag, perhaps something with Dragons, like Wales, or even just a red squirrel? That dull old cross does not stand up to aesthetic judgement, and the Goergians use it too anyway.

Let me see, where is my red, white and pale blue facepaint?

And some good shoes for the running...

Yep. I prefer the one from LotR though.

Edit: The results since '68 (Sweden always on the left):
1-3 '68
0-0 '79
1-0 '86
0-0 '88
0-0 '89
2-1 '92
3-3 '95
2-1 '98 (sorry, my bad)
0-0 '99
1-1 '01
1-1 '02

Possible there have been some since '02, this was the most recent I could find.

I'd enjoy it more if I could go shopping at ASDA without millions of pictures of Wayne Rooney anywhere - the hysteria's just a little annoying. But I was born in Scotland, so...:p

As far as I could see the only side in that match, the one with the most chance of winning, was Mexico.

What a dire display of incompetent refereeing. :headbang:

True, not terribly effective and racked up a few fouls too by the looks of it.

If T&T win against Sweden, that's shock but I do expect Sweden to win.

10-06-2006, 16:10
Not a very entertaining game but overall England were the better side I'd say because they took their chances in the first half whilst Paraguay who dominated parts of the second half just didn't create anything.

my friends and I got bored after the first half and started pretending the fouls were the score, it was far more exciting that way, England won 14 - 9!

All though Sven's decisions were poor, and they were all pretty exhausted, england were still the better side by far...

England deserved there win on the first half play but after half-time what happened? Taking Owen off was madness-nulifying crouchs abilitys by making him a 'lone striker' and WTF was Hargreves coming on for.

And the ref was nuts.

The ref wasn't nuts. He was incompetent.

The ref was pedantic in the extreme, however it is up to England to adapt to that. Crouch should not have argued with the ref or even shown any dissent, the Ashley Cole throw in was of arguable legitamicy, the Gerrard tackle was wrong and a mistake. The first tackle in the second half Beckham was penalised for, he trieed to tackle with his bottom - hardly the best, and the ref clearly tried to even it up by awarding the next tangle in his favour.

Many World Cup refs are interesting in their interpretations, and just as England were more savvy than Cameroon in QF 1990, we have to ensure we do not lose out to 'interesting' reffing, as we did in the SF 1990.

Yes.

Then, when structure was needed he added Hargreaves, who clearly does not work. It must be wondered what Carrick has to do. Carrick on for Gerrard would have added a solidity allowing a greater confiedence in attack, despite it being an apparently defensive change.
