Looks interesting. Hey, raising public awareness about PO is always a good thing...

Perhaps it's time for me to consider relocating to Japan or the West Coast; I have a feeling at least 2/3 of the US will turn quite shitty once oil starts to run dry, and only the places where oil can be generall replaced will do alright.

Unless, of course, you're smart and hedge ahead of time but I seriously doubt most people will be able to do so simply because they've overleveraged themselves too much since 1982...

Well, the US perhaps. Some places will weather it fine but the US most likely has a rough ride ahead of it...

I'm going to see this film Wednesday on the MGM lot. It's suposed to be really good.

It looks interesting; I hope it raises awareness about the issue, because the US will be hit the hardest of any nation in the world when oil production starts to decline. Maybe it will help set some things in motion, but who knows? Too many people see this issue as either a myth or a distant problem, and that's going to hurt us big time.

That's great; we always need more people like that who can command the attention of business and government especially in regard to a problem that will affect the US so severely in the coming years. It's a shame he retired so soon; now, we've got a Fed who says the CPI overstates inflation.

That downplaying of inflation is really bad given it will be the most prolonged and stubborn effect of Peak Oil, and the one most likely to produce immediate economic consequences because it reduces both real income and simultaneously reduces the strength of the dollar, pushing the prices of commodities up and causing more inflation. The inflationary spiral will be the first, and last, challenge of the end of the oil age, and I don't think our monetary authorities are prepared to undertake another 1979-type inflationary environment.

Greenspan recognizes the problem, and he recognizes that there are solutions. However, the real question is whether enough people will embrace those solutions fast enough to avert a serious economic challenge, or even a catastrophe.
