If it had been 4 - 3 then it would have been cowardly. However it was just taking the opportunity to give a new player (Odonkor) the experience of being on the field in the WC before he is needed. No harm in it at all.

That match wasn't boring at all. Quite the contrary. 3-2 in a WC opening game is most goals in....what..? 50 years..?

(For our American friends; In your terms it's like 28-12).

Except it was 4 - 2. Unusual for the opening game to put it mildly. I thought I had been optimistic for a neutral predicting 3 - 1. (Oh well, at least I got the winner and the margin right.)

Now my prediction for Poland - Ecuador is 4 - 0. So it could end up 0 - 0.

Equating football scores with american football scores really isn't a very effective practice, apples to oranges and all that.

28-14 is about average for a game of american football. It's just a much higher scoring game than football, in terms of frequency of scoring.

Kudos to Klinsmann. To be honest, this was the first game I've seen Germany play since the Confed Cup. And he's done what everyone's been calling from since '96 - he changed German football.

We play like Brazil now - keep scoring, and as long as you score one more than the opposition, you'll be fine. :D

Certainly an entertaining team that.

However it was just taking the opportunity to give a new player (Odonkor) the experience of being on the field in the WC before he is needed. No harm in it at all.
And what was his first touch? On the wing, just tap it forward, outsprint the defender and put a pass in the middle, which Podolski couldn't manage to do something with.

Excellent.

Substituting players in order to kill time, is not cowardly it is merely pragmatic. In football a good manager will do all that is legally possible to win the game, if he fails to do so then as far as I am concerned he is not doing his job.

Did Klose have to come off? If he had got a hatrick, it would have been a place in the history books for the birthday boy.

Great game, two poor defences leaving their keepers helpless. Like the Porras in goal. Question is, can Garmny play so well going forward against harder teams like Poland or England? Still they have some quality players, if there defence works out the offside trap, they could do well. Better fullbacks would be good for them too.

Well done Costa Rica for taking part in such an etnertaining game but they are going out in this round unless they improve a lot.

Yeah i thought T&T would get absolutly shafted and a guy 'in the know' reckoned The North American(Can't remember its official name) regioen had too many qualifying spots for the World Cup 3 1/2.
