Who do the good people of NS think will win the World Cup? The poll includes the top 9 seeded teams, as well as an option for no-hopers.

Brasilia.
Though Argentina and our boys (England) have a chance.
Ivory Coast could do well!
Croatia are considered a fairly good chance. Unfortunately, that would only happen if Australia gets knocked out.

FIFA rankings? Please. This is the same organisation that ranks Australia higher than Ukraine. Ukraine could beat the shit out of Australia.

Cote D'Ivoire or England. They're my teams in the sweep, so I'll be barracking for either of them once the Aussies have been knocked out.
I think the Dutch are a decent chance too.

Ukraine could beat the shit out of Australia.
And Holland could kick the shit out of the Ukraine...
Don't diss the Aussies. I've seen some pretty impressive displays, against Uruguay, against Greece, against Holland and before that against Brazil at the Confed Cup.
And besides, I like the attitude people have here towards their national team. It's very different from Germany...

Ukraine could beat the shit out of Australia.
Maybe by playing football, but the physical game Australia play could lead to Ukraine being severely beaten back!

I'm not entirely sure Holland could slaughter Ukraine. I saw them play Australia, and I didn't see much that impressed me. It was the Ruud van Nistelrooy Show featuring Holland and Australia.
And the Aussie's weren't impressive either. The Uruguay game, that was pretty good. But besides that, they've been pretty ordinary. That draw with Holland was lucky.

Right...
Did you not see the Holland game? Australia are reknowned for their physical approach to the game and are not afraid to risk taking a player out, Wilkshire on van Bronckhorst being a prime example, where as when I've seen Ukraine (albeit thats only been twice) they are not so physical but are far better technically.

To be fair, with the exception of last week I haven't seen either side for years. I can tell you more in a few days I suppose.
But besides that, they've been pretty ordinary. That draw with Holland was lucky.
The trick was that they showed what I value a lot in a team - the ability to hold on to a match, even when things go bad. And that makes them very difficult to break down, and Guus has greatly helped that.

I can't speak for the Germans, but I'd assume that they're very critical of their side. Whereas Australians are just thrilled to be in the Cup.

No one ever trusts the German team to do anything. You'd have seen SBS tonight, how they talked about the expectation - seriously, the only guy who got it right was Taylor in Munich.
Then there was the constant bickering around Klinsmann, one big name after another calling this the end of German football and so on. It is absolutely never just a case of "let's support our team and watch some great football". At least it hasn't been in the last ten years or so.

Fair enough, but they have a lot of technical work to do. Skills and such. Let's be honest; it's very possible that Australia would have lost if Viduka didn't get that penalty.

Probably. Hell, they probably should've lost even with that penalty. But they didn't, and that's the point.
As for skills...well, they're important, but I think tactics and morale are important enough to cancel that out. Plus, Viduka was the third-highest scorer in the Premier League, Bresciano can do great things and Kewell is definitely a skillful player. So it's not like it's completely devoid of talent. It certainly is the strongest side the country's ever produced.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, Mauritania.
I'm guessing Brazil, they look very strong... With some luck, Sweden might get a medal. And with "some luck", I of course mean if the other teams play without a goalie.

Seriously, though, considering how small their country is, those buggers have one of the best per capita soccer teams around.

Late in the game also.
