I'm not sure I see the problem with this. It just means you play football in somewhere where if you kick it too hard you wont smash a window. It seems a perfectly sensable policy. Notice its banned football playing in the streets. Not in total. As long as they make plenty of other places available for it, its fine.

It's "hilarious" to put things into a religious context, or so I've gathered from this forum.

I know. I was just using the same reasoning other have used to claim the UK was banning knives and glass.

Sure. They could be dropped from tall buildings and hurt people so legislation will be passed prevnting people from carrying coins above the 3rd story.

If the kids are too stupid to get out of the way of traffic then banning them from playing in the streets is a good idea. If it is just a bunch of politician's trying to do something to make themselves feel better then it's a bad idea.

Actually if the kids are too stupid to get out of the way of traffic, then banning soccer in the streets is not such a good idea. But I always was a natural selection supporter.

Considering the number of windows I broke, number of car alarms I set off and number of people I hurt with mis-placed kicks makes this quite sensible!

On Sunday evening I and seven friends were having a kick-about in the street and an old woman came out of her house and told us off. We were well and truly ashamed. So we trespassed onto the local tennis court instead.

The thing is a council isn't goign to do this sort of thing unless they have a reason to and generally the reason is that the councillor has a freind in that street who complains about the noise kids make.

Soemthing similar happned in my street. We had a biggish grassy bit behind our street that was regualrly used for football and other games but one old codger got fed up and complained to his mate the councillor and the next week the council men turned up dug up half the grass and planted shurbs in the middle of it.
So of course the football then was foced onto the busy street.

Don't you just love moany buggers...

Interest and excitement in football do not depend on the scoreboard. (And why do you have to repeat yourself five times?)

Old people complain about kids being too fat, spending all their time in front of TV. So kids go outside and play, and what happens? They bitch and moan.

I live on a city street, in a residential area, and kids on my block play soccer tennis in the middle of the street all the time (not enought room for soccer). Never had any broken windows, and as far as I know, not many car alarms set off either. The real "problem" is young people going outside, being happy, rowdy, energetic, and productive. It is a certain combination some people seem to find insufferable. I think such people should move.

Such a law ought to be disobeyed. If i were in that town, i'd gather all the kids and hold a constant game of soccer in the street, 24 hours a day, until they removed the sign and revoked the law.

This just proves that America broke off from england for a reason. Seriously, can you say police state?

Sometimes I love my country and its rights, I can have guns, knives, fireworks, and liqour all in the same car.

Having read the comments to article - invariabley irrate dinks, or some such, ranting about how kids ruin their gardens by not being careful and that parents are too lazy to drive their kids to the park.

1) Drive to get exercise? Wtf?
2) The council is closing down the nearest playing field.
3) It's called criminal damage, and the parents are responsible. So you know, get off your arse and stop expecting the council to nanny you.
