You know, if fights are a problem where people are drinking, maybe there needs to be a little less drinking.
I guess they'll hand out the beer in paper cups now.

In many places, gigs frex, beer is sold in plastic glasses already.
Or this new invention they have... "Plastic"
Edit: Beaten by a plastic whisker ;)

DK, you've gone back to the States now. Why do these UK stories bother you so much?
We'll just quietly go on stopping people from killing each other, and you can quietly go on shooting things.
Simple. :)

It's possible to kill people with bare hands. I suppose you'll lop those off, too.

Yep. I've just written to my MP urging him to introduce such legislation, in fact.
I guess they'll hand out the beer in paper cups now.
Or, you know, plastic pint cups...like they do in many places already.

It's not about removing all risk, that's impossible, it's about limiting the possibility of a fight escalating too far by trying to remove the ability for it to.
I honestly don't see how you can complain when there's an alternative that does the job just as well, but safer.
Or, you know, plastic pint cups...like they do in many places already.
That's clearly a violation of the *_*th Ammendment right to bear glass.

I thought the traditional way to remove risk in a pub was to remove all the wooden furniture and force everyone to stand.
Though there are environmental issues that should be addressed before jumping to plastic...

Guns cause death(holes in the body),
Knives cause serious damage(Serious cuts)
Glass cause moderate cuts(Moderate damage)
AND
Paper causes paper cuts(Small, minor damage, but BLEED AND HURT SEVERLY!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.)

I've been to a lovely place where the tables and benches are attached permanently to the floor. A much better prospect.

You must go to some odd pubs.

You must go to some odd pubs.
There were some in London with no furniture for that reason. The owners were tired of replacing the furniture.

Well, I guess it provides more of an opportunity to be anonymously groped, so I'm all for it!
Also, when you're too drunk to stand, you fall down, instead of being propped up by a chair or table, possibly stopping people from continuing to drink long past the point where they should stop.

That's London for you...
Oh the humanity! Men are being killed left and right by GLASSWARE! We should all fear this horrible menace!
END THE SLAUGHTER, BAN ASSAULT GLASSES NOW!

Or you could use lack of furntiure as an excuse to prop oneself against the nearest comely wench.
Thus lack of furniture has a twofold benfit: Less damage and more grope!

Now you're thinking!
Broken glass can cause a lot of damage. There are too many incidents where people are hit in the face with a glass or a bottle, and sustain permanent damage. Blindness is not an uncommon consequence.
I'm all for replacing the glassware with plastig. Actually, it's about bloody time - many of the pubs 'round here have already changed.

I understand the argument for plastic glasses, public safety and all, but I'm a guiness drinker and that stuff does not taste good coming from a plastic pot.

Far be it for me to dictate policy, but...
first, Guns,
then Knives,
then Glasses,
what's next I wonder...
Cars? Spears? Sticks? Rocks?
Is it me or are these bans comming a little close together with the intent to reduce people to throwing rocks?

No, that would be an offensive weapon ;)

As someone who worked in pubs I am happy that this is now acknowleged as a problem.
I do not agree with a blanket change but rather a premises by premises examination...
Having had to deal with
1 - a bloke glassed in the face...from eye to throat...looks of blood and pain....the guy lost his eye and has severe scarring on his face
2 - bloke glassed in the neck...he died...blood all over the place...I was first there and tried first aid...that was never going to save the guy
I did not experience the death as I was led away...I was 18....
Violent pubs = no glass

I'm a cider drinker, nothing tastes good coming from a plastic pot. It's okay to ban things that serve no other purpose than as offensive weapons, e.g. knives, knuckledusters and guns but this is way too far.
What I find strange however is that on the issue of terrorism, a lot of "liberals" like to paraphrase Benjamin Fraklin and say that those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither. I cannot help but wonder why when the issue of gun control rears its head they appear to support the opposite side.
