Interesting Point About Communism

Well, I'm vaguely communist, though leaning more towards socialist, and I just finished reading Marx's Manifesto. Something I hadn't realized communism advocated, the abolishment of marriage, and more or less hold women in common. Which more or less means also holding men in common.

Now on the one hand, 'Darn commies trying to rid us of our sacred traditions'

On the other

"Whoo! Girls and/or boys!"

What do you think?

That's not a part of modern communism, and could I have the actual statement?

Yes, but people still have monogamous relationships. What I'm wondering is if the Marx stuff discussed by the OP would actually ban two people from focusing on fucking eachother instead of others. It could turn out like that couple in Brave New World, who're criticized at the beginning of the book for not being polygamous enough.

In general, this all is a question about what does "held in common" mean?

"'But you communists would introduce a community of women,' screams the whole burgeois in chorus."

"What the communists might possibly be reproached with is that they desire to introduce, in substitution for a hypocritically concealed, an openly legalized community of women."

The abolition of marriage, I suppose.
