http://www.burningman.com/I am thinking of going either this year or next to this celebration of free expression and out and out Hedonism. Can anybody give me some first hand knowledge of their experience so i can have a better idea what to expect?

Could it be because they're not worshipping you?

I haven't been to the festival, but I have been up on the Black Rock any number of times.

Be prepared. Read the guidelines given by the festival and religiously follow them. Make sure you have water, shelter, shade, water, food, first aid kit, water, lose covering clothing, water, something to cover your eyes, nose and mouth against the dust, fun stuff, and water. My sister has gone a few times and loves it. I also love going up to the Black Rock, but that is NOT a place you want to screw around it and assume that it's a Sunday afternoon drive.

Come to think about it, there isn't any mud up there at that time of year.

Well, there's some around the hot springs, but you REALLY don't want to play in that.

Adds a whole new meaning to "burning man"?

It's something I've been meaning to do for quite some time, But I've never been that far west.

It's one of the last great crazy experiences that I haven't already had.

I've seen pictures of previous Burning Man events, and (at least in years past), they have set up sprinklers that turn part of the desert into a mudbath. And people are...shall we say... uninhibited in the mudbath. :p

We need to start an NSGeneral fund to send LG to Burning Man on the condition that he takes lots of pictures and posts them when he gets back.

Seriously, there are some springs up there that are fine to bathe in and (I am told) are wonderful. But there have been deaths due to people jumping into a spring to find out that the water is just slightly less than boiling.

That's why you should always be very careful when going up to the Black Rock. It's a awsome place, but it is also a very wild and dangerous place.

I stand corrected. ;)

Usually for the Black Rock, you get nice mud if you go up May'ish when the playa is just starting to dry out.

Of course you also can get stuck in said mud, but it's a glorious mud.

Oh, I have quite a bit of experience in many types of mud. I've even been stuck in mud when I was younger and less knowledgable. Now, I doubt I could get stuck in mud.

The only place I'd be concerned is Morecambe Bay, England. They are rather infamous for their sticky mud. *nod*

Maybe this fits in to this thread. Apparently, hard drinking compensates for a lack of physical ability.

Here's a shocker: "Men who are not confident in their sporting abilities may try and make up for this by drinking excessively."

So says Richard de Visser, whose new study looked into the masculine behaviors of young men in London and how it all affects their health.

Far be it for me to debate with you about mud.

Every year though there are idiots who attempt to drive a 2 wheel drive sports car onto the lake bed in May or June just to have to walk back to Gerlach and arrange for someone to come and dig their car out. ;)

You know, there really isn't a lot of hard drug use at Burning Man. There is MJ (kinda, it is BLM land and BLM rangers patrol constantly and NHP also patrols the roads during that time), but the idea that this is one large drug fest is wrong.

I'm going to have to slather myself with a sunscreen with SPF of 5000 or so,drink water all the time, wear loose light clothing, nudity is not an option because i will be my own burning man.:p One thing i also picked up is that you leave nothing behind,no garbage,no nothing, what you bring with you ,you take out out of there, even cigarette butts are not tolerated,so smoke those reefers down to the end.
