Cindy McKinney Update

This looks it will require periodic updates, as the Grand Jury probe is taking longer than either Whitewater or Plamegate.

Washington – The grand jury investigation of 4th District Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney enters its third month today with no hint from the federal prosecutor about how much longer it will take to settle a case that legal experts said should have been wrapped up in a matter of days.

McKinney was accused of striking a Capitol Hill police officer March 29, and the case was referred to the grand jury April 5. The drawn-out process of deciding whether she should be charged with assault has police fuming that the DeKalb County Democrat is getting preferential treatment from a politically motivated prosecutor.

How much special treatment is one member of Congress required to have? And how long would it have taken for one of us 'unwashed' to have been locked up?

Do you even have to ask? The fact that the whole case wasn't dismissed immediately says something in and of itself.

Why should it have been dismissed when she did break the law?

I'm not saying it should... I'm saying it's what I expected to have happened.

I mean come on, she IS a member of congress..... and a woman..... and a black woman.

To listen to her first public announcement after the fact, one would wonder why the police officer wasn't arrested for assaulting her.

I have a feeling she is on her way out dey door anyway. This is the way she is. Frankly, I would rather hear Howard Dean or Al Gore talk than Representative McKinney.

As long as it took to transport one of us to the police station.

Myrmidonisia can speak to this better than I can, but I don't believe she's in any danger of losing her seat. Last time she lost, it was in a primary, and some outside forces had a hand in it, but now that she's back, there's not much chance of dislodging her short of her being caught in some sort of major sexual or financial scandal, and maybe not even then.

She should already be in jail. Regardless of race, sex, occupation, or political leanings, nobody has the right to assault a police officer for doing their job.

Did you see the clip of her press conference when she thought the mic was turned off?

And then her damage control saying that things she says when she doesn't know the mic is on, are off the record "Is that understood?"

And the media played it anyway.... :p

Yes I did. Luckily she didn't say it was off the record before she said what she did. Therefor, the press was proper in playing it despite her saying it was off the record after the fact.

What did she say?
At first she insuated that the only reason the police stopped her was because she was a black woman.

I looked for a clip.... /shrug

That's a accurate analysis. Ms McKinney was beaten in the primary against a local judge, Denise Majette. The outside force was a number of Republicans that voted in the Democratic primary. Perfectly legal in Georgia. Someone in the Democratic party talked Majette into running against a favored Republican for the Senate and that was the end of her career in Washington.

I won't say McKinney doesn't represent her district. I don't live in it, so I don't know exactly what happens when a constituent asks for help. I do know that the DeKalb county commissioners had to hire a lobbyist to represent them, while McKinney was the elected Representative for that area.

Just throw her in jail for assualting a police office, why does this need to even be debated.

When I read the title I thought it was a story about another drunk white girl who got herself killed.

I am afraid my Congressalien from another planet is in a stacked district. :headbang: She honestly believes she is above all rules and all the law, and whitey can kiss her big, black ass.

I'm sure it's simply because the Capitol Police department is afraid of what Jesse Jackson might do. It gives "WWJD" a completely different meaning.
