Extra Credit "Essay" (TLDR warning)

Chellis
05-06-2006, 09:09
Well, Im nearly failing english in high school(due to an extreme lack of motivation to work). Therefore, I need some extra credit, to secure my D in that class, to graduate high school.

The teacher told me to write whatever I wanted, and she would decide how much extra credit to give(I kiss her ass, she wants me to pass). We did a little work on creating our own countries recently, but I wanted to go further. So I had a little fun writing a nice long essay about Chellis.

Now, before anyone says anything, its not all accurate. Especially not about Lodoss and nationstates. However, I tried my best to fit it to what she could understand, she could like, and what was real in NS. Anyways, here it is, just because I want more than one person to see what I just spent hours writing.

The Commonary of Chellis

Chellis is a nation comprised of 7.349 billion assorted peoples, who live to an average of 85 years of age. With a landmass the size of about Africa, overcrowding is apparent. Multi-million population cities are numerous, and the capital and its suburbs house about 400 million alone. The capital, New Pyongyang, is the economic and cultural head of the nation, while Yangbong, a city of 50 million(not counting suburbs), is the administrative leader of the country.

The history of Chellis is a brutal one, and reaches back to the early 1920's. After the Independance movement of 1919, a hardcore socialist group began to gain influence in Japanese-occupied Korea. Though heavily fought by the Japanese, the Korean Socialist Party slowly became a voice for the oppressed.

As World War Two began, the CCCP realized that Japan was a potential enemy that could prove to be very troublesome if it devoted its resources against the Soviet Union. Therefore, the CCCP began to smuggle arms to the KSP in 1940, and training KSP members in the art of combat.

Throughout the Conflict, the KSP earned the respect of the common Korean. Countless times they freed citizens from Japanese forced-labour camps, and never did their attacks target areas where innocent civilians were at risk. The Japanese were forced to put a relatively signifigant amount of troops in the country to ensure its protection from independence.

As the war drew to a close, and Allied and Russian troops divided Korea, the KSP was without a home. The KSP could not stand that the Russians had used them to free Korea, only to turn it into a puppet state of theirs. At the same time, the south was controlled by the allies, and they didn't feel that they could get a sufficient Socialist party started there.

Then the war began. The North invaded the South, and all hell broke loose. KSP members would not fight against each other, nor other Koreans, even though both sides tried to persuade them. They only had one option; to leave the homeland.

How the KSP managed to get to their current land, is both unknown and incredible. What is known, is that when they arrived, they weren't nearly as peaceful as they were on the home continent. Forged in war, still having a good portion of their soviet equipment with them, they fought the natives of the land where they initially settled, whom were mostly armed with old black-powder rifles and bladed weapons.

They spread quickly, too. With an incredible determination and rule under the first leader of the nation, who is now only known as Chellia, the KSP ruthlessly exploited the natural resources of the land to gain them a fair amount of wealth. They quickly found contacted their neighbors to the north, all of which is now called the Continent of Lodoss(even though its a region of widely water-seperated nations). They used their wealth to quickly industrialize their nation, contracting experts from the Order of the Dragon and Estavia, two fairly modern nations in the region.

By the Seventies, they had spread like wildfire. With burning passion for their cause, they had spread through about a fourth of modern day Chellis. Socialism was working, although the rights of the people weren't very high. However, Chellis had become an industrial powerhouse for its size, and its population had reached 120 million, incredible for its age. This was due to many natives joining with Chellis to get work and sustinance, as well as immigrants from other countries doing the same. Chellis also highly prized having large families, and gave large amounts of money to families with more children.

On 1984, Chellis aquired its first nuclear weapon. With help from Scientists from Xen, it had begun mining its incredibly rich uranium mines in the late seventies. Cheap nuclear energy allowed its military to flourish, as well as government programs, by selling its energy to its neighbors. This allowed Chellis to gain administrative control over the rest of modern day Chellis by 1995, and full control by 2002.

By 2002, Chellis was a land of 850 million. While the southern climates were especially cold, they were used for great amounts of mining and new industry, while the north was the home of many farms and cultural programs. The people had grown used to the government, as it provided them with many things, if not freedoms. It had no real ill-will towards its people, and everything it did seemed to be justified for use of the state.

Chellis stopped accepting new immigrants when it hit a billion population in the census. Chellians were afraid of the culture and language of the nation being corrupted by immigrants, and the government realized that this could be a way of promoting nationalism, so they complied. And went further.

It became a crime to teach any outsiders the language of Chellis. The borders were closed; nobody allowed in or out, unless the state approved in advance. Nobody really seemed to care much; Chellians rarely left the country anyways. Going on trips on boats were expensive.

Around this time, Chellis began to get involved in Foreign affairs heavily. Having developed its military to a strong point, and showcasing a number of innovative equipments, it began to show its ability in Real Politik. The first recorded foreign war of Chellis, although its known there were smaller ones before, was the Amerigo Slaver Conflict.

Chellis was a very hypocritical nation. It heavily argued for state sovereignty and states rights, yet had a horrible human rights record. So, when the nation of Amerigo publically announced its slave trade, and a number of prominent nations of the world began to blockade the nation, Chellis came to its Aid.

The Amerigo Slaver Conflict is in the history books of most nations, even those not involved. It was generally seen as one of the first major conflicts in the world since World War Two. The sheer number of people and nations involved went well over that of the second world war.

Chellis played an active role in the defense of Amerigo. It fought the coalition against Amerigo in the waters, which has since been characterized by a tactical nuclear strike that didn't involve Chellis, and attacks on civilian ships... by Chellis. Chellis claimed that it did not know they were civilian ships, and fired in self defense ,but regardless, it gave Chellis a very bad reputation.

Chellis didn't help it go up, either. When the war began to move to shore, Chellis began to use its favorite weapon of old times; chemical weaponry. Chellis used chemical weapons from aircraft, mortars, and artillery in large amounts. Though successful tactically, Iesus Christi and Reich troops drove Chellian forces off of Amerigo.

Not too long afterward, Amerigo fell.

Chellis has a long history of war after this point. Its military exploits could easily fill a large book, which would require years of research by multiple people, with many of the records completely lost to time.

Modern history has quite changed for Chellis, however. After an innumerable amount of time, Chellis became isolationist from world affairs. One of the strongest nations in the entire world, it had grown tired of Orwellian-style eternal conflict. It gave up its colonies in Europe and Africa, as well as many other conquered nations. It resigned from the NATO(Not related to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization), and even became detatched to Lodoss.

As it lost its nationalism, the people began to slowly question the government again. Why was the military so powerful, when there was no war to wage? Why was there an elite class of incredibly rich people, who looked down on the quite poor average Chellian?

A silent revolution was waged. With heavy support from inner party members and the military, a Coup D'etat was pulled on the government. A popular young politicial rose to be leader of the nation, and promised incredible changes if the people were only willing to work with him.

Chellis is now a quite different place than it was. Although a number of things stayed, such as its isolationism, and nearly completely atheist population, the government was radically different. Raslin Illiskowski, the first leader of the new Commonary of Chellis, almost singlehandedly created the new system. He first pooled together the leading heads of the nation, in areas such as economics, politics, industry, and all other areas, and created an elite board of people to effectively run the nation. The board, in turn, have Raslin a dictatorial ability, but one that he must not abuse. Raslin set an example, and left almost every board decision alone. The board also elected leaders, so it would be highly unlikely to have a corrupt leader.

Using a complex set of computers and administrative staff, the government is highly run by computer. While not artificial intelligence, the computer system uses highly complicated algorithms to figure out what jobs are needed in the country, who is best for what job, and how to balance certain jobs. All people get the same allowances, credits toward purchasing goods from the nation, but as not all jobs are the same, some people work longer than others, some get more vacation time, some retire earlier, etc. People are also allowed to petition the government if they have a problem with the job selected for them, and the government is highly responsive to these requests.

The system works very well. Chellians have one of the highest standards of living in the world on average, and are a mass exporter of goods and materiels to the rest of the world. Chellis mass produced both civilian and military goods, and an incredibly number of nations around the world use Chellian military equipment, as it generally does not care who purchases, as long as they have money.

Chellis is called a Libertarian Police State by many, though the name sounds like an Oxymoron. The people have excellent civil rights now, however, political rights are nearly non-existant. They simply aren't seen as important, as the Board has done an incredible job of maintaining both the system, and itself, electing the brightest and best of chellis to run the country, as opposed to almost every other country in the world, running on the popular or the ruthless.

Chellis has a two year compulsary military service for all able bodied persons, to be taken from age 18 to 26. The two year period is spent at home, except in the case of a major war. Chellis does have a quite small professional army for its size, which stays until retirement from all jobs. It now heavily prizes its airforce, as its the quickest to respond to any problem within the country, although the army is quite powerful as well.

Chellian, the language of the nation, is a strange mix of French, Korean, and Slang over time. It heavily is based towards latin, and most latin-based language speakers learn it much more quickly than english speakers, etc. French is a secondary tounge, although most people don't use it in every day life.

As a communistic nation, things such as healthcare, food, shelter, etc are completely free. However, people are assorted credits, to buy things that aren't essential to life. They get certain amounts in fixed time periods, which they can use to purchase things. Nobody gets any more or any less, and they are used pretty much only to specify what the person wants as extras.

People generally have a good amount of free time in Chellis. A 30 hour work week is the norm for someone not going to school, which means five days a week working six hours, plus an hour lunch break every day. This is not for everyone, but the average.

People have incredible freedom while off work. All forms of media are completely free, and chellis has one of the highest amounts of internet users and video game players in the world. Narcotics are legal in Chellis, to the point where they can't affect work performance, or else they are put into programs to get them off.

Chellis also has one of the highest amounts of gun owners in the world. Nearly the entire country above 18 years of age owns a gun, for military purposes. Not counting militia weapons, about 65% of the nation owns another gun of some sorts. Due to universal concealed carry allowances, crime in Chellis is very low, as most crime ends, or is preempted, because of an armed civilian stepping in.

The compulsary military acts as the police in chellis, in conjunction with native police and the professional military. However, as there is not much crime, the compulsary military often works on public works where they are stationed.

Public transportation in Chellis is very popular. Train and Bus are the two favored ways of getting around Chellis, with Automobiles being low on the list. Many people opt for bicycles, especially in the cities, where traffic is as much bicycle as it is automobile.

Refusal to work in Chellis is considered treason, and can be grounds to life imprisonment, death, or ejection from the country, depending on conditions. Some people are given time to get a government-assigned job and stick with it, to avoid treasonary actions.

Chellis is not a great place to visit. Most likely you can't speak with people or read the language, its not particularly beautiful, and other than the bare nessecities, you can't get anything, as your money is all but useless, except for buying a disproportionate amount of credits which heavily favors the transaction for the state.

It is a great place to live, though. There are no poor, no unemployed; only middle class workers and dead people. As a worker, you are guarenteed employment, the nessecities of life and then some, and protection.

If only we could all live in Chellis.
