i'm assuming there's others with hotmail accounts on here. i have two and i can't log in to either of them for the last 2 days. i know i have emails cuz msn messenger is telling me so when i log in to that. anyone know anything about this by any chance? it's really annoying.

Do you have/have you tried gmail?
I had a similar problem recently. I had a major prob with my DVD RW drive (it wasn't recognising .exe files on a DVD and wouldn't copy) and while desperately trying to work out what was wrong, I started uninstalling software. (It was the accused StarForce anti-piracy software that was doing it btw)
One thing I unistalled was Windows XP service pack II, and when I did that, I couldn't log into any email account. Something to do with sending encrypted info over the net, I guess. Must have been to do with their friggin' firewall.
So that's an option: check your windows firewall settings. It may have been turned on when you automatically updated something from Microsoft.
Also check the logs to see what auto updates have been installed since you could last check in.
Check the security settings on explorer.
And finally, if you haven't done it already, download Firefox. IE sucks.
