Every few years, the Mainichi Daily News does a report on the stranger examples of ice cream that have been put out here in Japan. They've just done their 3rd installment: http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/photospecials/graph/060528icecream/1.html
And the winner is: pit viper flavored ice cream.
They need to make brimstone flavored icecream in honor of 6-6-06...

Do they have wasabi flavoured ice cream? I'm pretty sure they must have. And then add in some fish flavoured ice cream and you have a sushi party in your mouth, only in ice cream form!!! :D

Its by a company called 'Hime'. Japanese restaurants usually serve them for dessert or can be purchased at an Asian supermarket.

Well there's a charcoal one - that's kinda appropriate....

There're also several fish flavored ones, at least two rice flavored ones, and two soy sauce flavored ones. You could make a sushi sundae. http://www.world-of-smilies.com/html/images/smilies/schockiert/ezpi_blueface.gif

Yep. Some of the other flavors listed (for those who skimmed through) include:
basashi (raw horse flesh), cactus, pearl, sea salt, deep sea water, hot spring water, garlic and mint, Finland (http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/photospecials/graph/060528icecream/33.html), and grilled beef tounge.

Hagen Daaz? They sell it here :)
I'll go hunting tommorow.. for that flavor.

Although mint isn't an unusual flavor for icecream, garlic and mint must be interesting....
How can you make something that tastes like Finland? But I want the cactus flavored one! I've had cactus before. It's good. So the icecream must be better!

I think what was meant was the flavor macha as made by Haagen Daaz, not Haagen Daaz altogether.... ooh, I want to have green tea icecream again. It's been a while. *pouts*

They sell Haagen Daaz like B&J here, a bunch of flavors.
Wasabi ice cream would taste good!
Actually it ain't half bad, and it's not nearly as spicy as you'd think.
I tried it yesterday and rather liked it. Of course I was also at the world's largest wasabi farm so... ;)

Exactly (hence the Haagen Daaz, not simply Haagen Daaz. ;) )
And the Finland one is just  And the cactus one is prickley pear pads, IIRC, so it's not what most people get when they eat cactus (usually it's the "tuna" or fruit of the cactus that's eaten).

I know, but I actually had the cactus-y part of the cactus, not the tuna. It was a specific type of cactus where you could do that. It was awesome.
... actually, it was more like any other green vegetable. But better than some.

How can you make something that tastes like Finland?
My guess: salt, pork, cold, alcohol and depression.
Strangest ice cream I've had was Chilli ice cream, which wasn't bad. Hagen Das here makes red bean ice cream, which tastes like ice cream and red bean.
How can you make something that tastes like Finland?
It's said right there in the description. Xylitol! Yum!
It's both scary and funny that just when you think you've seen all the godawful stuff those wacky Japanese can come up with, something like charcoal flavored ice cream comes along. There's something so fundamentally wrong with that country...
On the upside, the girl on the index page is kind of cute.
