Not to be agaisnt the cause, but isn't polling the NS forums a bit more biased then polling all of America? (given that from my observations Americans on the board of more left then right, and because you know, there are people not in America voting...)

well, this poll certainly dosent leave much choice

unfortunately, i must choose Bush, due to the fact that gay people should "unite in the eyes of the law" and not marry, Bush will be over soon, and therefore, is the lesser of the two evils (ugh, what an inapropriate expression)

But straight unions should be marriageable? Explain how this is remotely fair (meaning that it involves equality) unless the government only deals with unions and marriage becomes a strictly religious term?

Yes

Marrige in the religious sense
Anyone should be able to join in a legal union with anybody, as long as theere is mutual consent

What is wrong with gays Marrying?Shouldnt they have the same rights as straight souples. Our country is about equality. You can't separate gays by making legal unions instead of marrage. It gpes against the foundation of our country.

"Our country" please explain which country you are reffering to in this sweeping generalisation

Marriage started out as a religious thing, and if religions accept that, then im okay with it, but if they dont, then homosexuals shoulnt marry, but enter into a legal union

We could make legal authorities only give out "legal unions" and leave marriage to the reliegious people

Although this is probably only because you can't know if the dead person gives his/her consent or not... ;)

And because certain religious and/or conservative people wouldn't like it...

The Government should butt out of this altogether. Simply slap down a "Gays can have legal union", and problem solved. Marriage, since it is an institution of religion, holds therefore no say in any of this, and everyone wins.

Forbidding gays to marry, however, is therefore a suppression of religion in the broader sense.
