I don't get it. If atheists don't worship anyone how can they be accused of worshipping satan? Shouldn't monotheists suspect each other more of worshipping satan, since one religion's God is so often the other religion's Devil?

I fairly dislike this "if you are not with us then you are against us" + "if you try to opt out you are still against us, hahahaha!" kind of rationale.

Makes it that much harder for everyone to get along.

Being a Christian (or part of any Abrahamic religion) entails an implicit recognition of Satan's existence. It does not, however, amount to his worship.

That said, those who would call true atheists Satanists are quite frankly idiots, or quite confused. Keep in mind though Satan = opposite, and therefore Satanism = against the flow. It need not entail the worship of Satan himself. The movement is more to do with the worship of the ego, which is not a god in the normal sense of the word.

I'm not quite sure what the problem is. Given the evil they see around them in the world, some might conclude that the omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent God does not exist (hence atheism), but that there is in fact a powerful evil force generating the evil of this world (hence Satan). Most atheists I've met don't reach this conclusion, however.

But it is rather silly to accuse atheists in general of being worshippers of Satan, I agree. Like calling those who don't believe in the Magical Pink Invisible Unicorn worshippers of the Anti-Pink Visible Unicorn.

Partly because some atheists follow the teachings of LaVey - and call themselves Satanists. Those people do not actually believe in a barbed tail horned red guy - but informing oneself on what the other actually believes is often waaaay too much effort for a fundamentalist.

I really think that because in christianity there is a god and the Satan, the more you believe in one, the more you believe in the other. Therefore it's even possible that by worshipping christian god, you'd worship the Satan aswell. So the real question is, that are all fanatic christians Satan-worshippers, because all true Satan-worshippers must be christian aswell, admit they it or not.

I don't worship anyone or anything, and that includes my mind and Charles Darwin. Just because I think evolution is much, much more credible than creation doesn't mean I worship the person who first published the evolution theory. It just means I agree with the theory, nothing more nothing less.

Satan is a christian invention, and I don't believe it exists anymore than I believe god exists, which is not at all. Religions, all of them not just christianity, to me are a mixture of myth, fable, fairy tale and twisted ancient history. No true atheist would reject god as not existing, then turn around and worship the bad guy.

This sounds like what some fundies would say to try to make athiests look bad and evil. I have a better idea, how about everyone minds their own business and lets people believe in whatever they want. That way the fundies are happy, the moderate religious are happy, the agnostics are happy and us atheists can not believe to our hearts content.

No. Atheism just means you don't believe in the existence of a deity. You could still believe in things like animism or have a belief in a spirit/soul for humans alone. You could even believe in good and evil spirits that are not of deific quality and still be an atheist. Many Buddhists are atheists and a number of Satanists are as well.

Atheism is a very specific lack of belief in a particular thing. You can believe in all sorts of superstitions and still not believe in a God.

LaVeyan Satanism is surely recognised, but this doesn't mean the LaVeyans have a monopoly on the term "Satanist" any more than a particular sect of Protestant has a monopoly on the term "Christian", though I'm sure many from both groups would love to think they do.

Mature theistic Satanism (ie. not what wannabe-goth teens claim) is very much a recent thing, but it's not insignificant if you pay attention to these sorts of things. Many of them have no problem with being called "devil-worshipers", though many will also self identify as Satanists.

Personally, while I'm not a LHP-er of any variety, I always get a kick out seeing LaVeyan zealots whining about they got dibs on the term "Satanist" and the rest are mere "devil-worshipers". :p

now, since Jesus said it, it's a pretty big deal. A lot of people would say that Mammon doesn't mean Satan but means money, and they are right. So does it mean that if you don't serve God than you do serve money?

which when you play connect the dots, basically means (to some Christians) that you are worshiping the devil, since you obiviously aren't worshiping God (it would be hard for an athiest to do so, you agree?)
