Just when you thought the summer stock of bad sequals could not get worse...

Just when you thought that every indignity could be perpetuated on a well loved series of books...

the devil provides...

There's ANOTHER musical?

Ah well, maybe they'll actually make it about the Lord of the Rings instead of the Hobbit this time. But that musical was awesome. I loved the orcs and goblins with their electric war guitars :D
And Smaug's flamethrower was pretty nifty too.

maybe they based in on the bashki animated version? the books/movies are way too long to be made into a stage play.

a review:

The blueprint of this $28-million adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy -- a heroic, if misguided undertaking billed as a hybrid of drama, music and spectacle -- is now in place. All it needs is a more engaging storytelling approach, an emotional arc, credible performances and a coherent musical score. In other words, what's missing is the essence of theatre itself as that divine place for sharing stories and forging an emotional connection between audience and performers. For all its triumphs of visuals and design, The Lord of the Rings fails the most basic test of theatre. Indefinite run. $56 to $125. Princess of Wales Theatre, 300 King St. W. 416-872-1212. -- K.A-S.
