What would your perfect political party be?

Today I was randomly talking with my friends, and although many of them hold various political ideas, I found something we could all agree on; American political parties suck. Now, I'm not talking about the various third parties (although most of them are really fringe groups), I'm talking about the Democrats and Republicans.

We started talking about whether it was possible for there to be a third party that could challenge them. I looked at all the third parties and though that most of them held extreme philosophies. Therefore, I decided to ask the NS community what they would think the "perfect" political party would be. However, I realise that asking for the "perfect" might be a little much, so just give me what you think the best political party would be. Ideology wise, etc.

I like the LP. Essentially, any libertarian party which supports minarchist monarchy and a confederal Swiss-like EU and Swiss-style immigration. We need more of those in Europe. :)

I dunno...Social Democrats? I'll need to look up some of their stances and such...Feh, whatever. I want a gun-nut liberal lefty.

The Constitution Party should drop their pro-theocracy stance, make a few minor tweaks in their platform, and merge with the Libertarian Party. Michael Badnarik even said the two parties agree 90%. Just fix a few things up, and voila! They could merge.

60 million people just like me would be a good party.

Surely there's scope for some kind of Centre Left party in the US? No .... oh well.

I've noticed that the two parties who my ideals are similar to are...
The Libertarian Party...
and the American Fascist Movement.
Looks like I would support the Libertarians on most issues, except on immigration and the Iraq War.

Well, there are a lot of disgruntled democrats, so they could potentially get like 10-20% of the leftist vote. Same with a center-right party.

But does that actually end up being a significant number? 10-20% of not very much is very little :( .

Edit: Sorry, are you counting the Democrats as a left Wing party?

My perfect party would have all my friends plus more, lots of food, a keg or two, good music and that perfect atmosphere which makes parties kick ass.

 Could you imagine that in the House of Commons?

Eh, enough for a seat or two if they're concentrated in one place. The fewer people vote, the fewer we need to make a difference...

A political party based on grass-roots organization that advocated libertarian socialism would be my perfect party. Most of the US left-wing political parties are too state-oriented for my tastes.

The Constitution Party should drop their pro-theocracy stance,

That will never happen. The point of the Constitution Party is theocracy.

make a few minor tweaks in their platform,

Like, say, abolishing protectionism and embracing secularism? Neither of those changes would be minor.

and merge with the Libertarian Party.

They are incompatible. While on several policy questions they are very close, their political philosophies are very far apart.

Officially, they're right-wing, but compared to Europe, they're center-right.

They agree 90%...if we ignore every political issue except maybe tax policy.

(edit: as far as perfect political party...maybe the Green Party, except without the whole welfare state/socialist thing, or perhaps the Libertarian party, except without the profit-uber-alles the-UN-stormtroopers-are-taking-over-the-world thing.)

Democrats are officially right-wing? I know they are in principle, but officially?

Woah woah, which Democratic party are we talking about?

As for my political party, I tend to believe in a capitalist nation, de-focused from around the state, where the state acts as nothing more than protection, with a great amount of personal freedom (i.e. no gun control, freedom of speech completely protected). In general it falls in as a more conservative ideology (on the American political spectrum at least).

Ach! I said the wrong thing! I meant left-wing. How embarrasing :(

The perfect party would be a democratic social-liberal party, a good balance between left and right, with attention for education and attention for nature but not making a problem of each frog filled pool.

perfect political party? one that turned us into a libertarian law-and-order state with compulsory militia service and 10 years between elections, with expanded provisions for impeachment if somebody bad got elected. and lets not forget a policy for making anti-gun lobbyists disappear at night...

The American political system makes third party success impossible without the catastrophic failure of one (or both) of the major two parties... sorry guys.

In a sign of my radicalism though, my ideal party would probably label itself a movement, or maybe even a front?

One that actually adheres to Trotskyist principles, regularly crushes fascists, has the support of all trade unions, has a democratic centralist structure with full acountability and recallability.

We also have a lot of guns :)

The Libertarian party with two additions, if any group larger the 500 people shows up on the white house lawn, they are to be given loaded AK-47s and respectfully led wherever they wish. Any citizen opposing them will also be given an AK-47 and led to them. :D
