Your sleeping prefrence(s)

Well I don't believe I have seen this done before, so score +1 in smartiness. ;)

Well I like to have soft music playing, my fan oscillating around the room at the lowest setting, and I have to have the room at absolute darkness. I usually used two firm pillows, and a light blanket to cover me, unless its unbearably hot. The final thing is that I have to have my teddy somewhere near my bed. I just can't sleep without him :p.

Oh yeah, I also sleep on my side most of the night. For me, thats the most comforting way to sleep. :)

1) A temperature in the high sixties farenheit

2) A firm bed

3) One pillow

I sleep in the same room with my computer humming away (monitor off), blinds closed (but light still comes in), door closed, usually in nothing but pj shorts and with a bunch of blankets.

Although really, my prefrence is to fall asleep nude in my bf's arms... but I'm assuming you're talking about solo sleeping.

When at home, I usually have to read before going to sleep, though this rule isn't so true if I'm elsewhere - force of habit, I suppose. Two pillows are much desired, and it's a must that the room is dark. I sometimes listen to my MP3 player before sleeping, but unless it's specifically relaxing music, it tends to rouse me too much.

The most important thing, rather obviously, is not to be stressed (or at least have some method of alleviating stress). The past few weeks have been pretty shite here, so I'm actually on sleeping pills on alternate nights for a few weeks. I've also found that having a short bath before retiring helps.

Hell no. Especially not the last one... *shudders* About 1.5 meters of snow and cold as...well, as ice. But it's so much fun being in school every single minute of daylight, you know? Leaving home in darkness, coming home in darkness... At least I don't have to bother with closing the curtains.

Edit: And I live in central Sweden, but it's up on a damn mountain so I'm screwed anyways.

I usuall sleep on my front in a nice cold, dark (but not pitch black) and silent room and one firm pillow and a nice thick quilt. oh yeah, and my teddies from when I was young stuffed in a draw within reach (just in case ;))

Also I can't just go to bed I have to sort of wind down by reading for an hour or so.

I sleep whenever I get tired, which, unless I am at school, can be pretty much any time of the day, but typically sometime in the middle of the night or early morning.

I don't have much trouble sleeping with a lamp on, but daylight typically is slightly more of a problem. I sleep best either in a silent room or with the noise from my computer's fans. (sometimes I listen to music in my head for a while, however. and sometimes I have to suppress it so that I can sleep)

I have a very hard time sleeping well if it's too warm; it being slightly too cold is far less of a problem.

And I always prefer sleeping naked.

er... a bed, low lighting, a tv on or someone else in the room (otherwise I get scared), and at least 1 1/2 hours. I find it weird that people can fall asleep as soon as they get into bed. Sleep requires concentration with me, real mental effort to turn my brain into standby. Otherwise I just end up laying there thinking about nothing all night.

I sleep on a Fluffo mattress with two feather beds on it under a bunk bed that I used when I was like 11 and atop 1000 thread count sheets. Usually I keep an oscillating fan on next to me, and I have the XM radio on the television playing Fine Tuning. I don't like sleeping with any light, however, so I currently have a quilt hanging down from the bunk bed. Typically my cat sleeps with me, and he likes curling up in the duvet, or sometimes even under the duvet with me. I have one chiropractic pillow under my head and one of 'em hot-dog looking body pillows between my legs.

... I totally want to sleep right now T_T.

Before going to sleep, I usually put on some music to drown out the sound of my computer's fans. Sunlight, the light in my room, or darkness are all fine. Usually it takes about 20 minutes to fall asleep. If I feel like I'm not falling asleep, I sit up and read a book/play computer games until I'm tired enough to sleep.

My sleeping habbits pretty much explain why I tend to live alone, and why my periodic roommates tend to be a bit nutty after a few weeks of living with me.

I sleep in the nude, for one thing, which bothers a surprising number of people. I also require (REQUIRE) that a television or radio be playing, but it cannot be playing music. The only exception to this is if I can get a room that faces onto a busy street, and I can leave the window open for noise. I sleep with one foot dangling off the edge of the bed. I do not sleep walk or snore, but I have been told that I sometimes sleep with my eyes partially open. I prefer to sleep on unusual surfaces when possible, though I am quite fond of my futon at the moment.

You guys are all total bastards. here you are, talking about sleep, and here I sit, once more a victim of mild (hopefully mild at least) insomnia. Bastards.

Of course, when I do manage to sleep, I sleep like a total... sleeping thing, that sleeps a lot and doesn't wake up easily. See everyone gets it wrong - I'm not lazy, but my daily hours are so far removed from everyone else's that I always end up sleeping when they're not, so they get the impression of laziness. Ah well.

But as for sleeping, when it happens, there's gotta be two (at least) pillows there, but preferably not more than three, or it gets a bit crowded. The bottom one's gotta be a nice firm foam one, the top a soft feather one. I prefer to be slightly chilled too - being overly warm in bed is intolerable, and makes for unpleasantly sweaty sheets and blankets.

I nearly always have a tape (story usually) playing, just loud enough to be heard without strain, but soft enough to not distract. It helps if it's one I've heard loads too, so I don't end up listening to it rather than sleeping. Music really doesn't work at all for some reason. The only real exception to this is if I'm sleeping at someone else's house, since they'd probably get kinda pissed if I stuck a tape on.

And I generally end up reading for hours before I sleep too, although this is probably due to a lack of ability/dedsire to fall asleep rather than an actual need to read before sleep. Who knows though? Could be habit forming I suppose...

And while sleeping with someone else is always pleasant, the only other times I've really done, well once we didn't get any sleep at all, since my girlfriend is at least as insomniacal as me, possibly more so, and we ended up talking through the night, as well as various other activities :) And the other time... well it wasn't too bad actually, since my other friend is a total lizard, and therefore has practically no body heat, so sleeping with her wasn't too bad - that's the worst part about sleeping with someone else, the excess heat. And of course it probably helped that we weren't engaged in those... other activities ;)

And of course when all else fails, lying there doing and thinking absolutely nothing is almost as good as sleep naturally  Or of course, posting on NS Gen :D

edit: Forgot to mention, since I've covered everything else so thoroughly, I sleep on my side and in the buff (it's so liberating :D) and masturbation has a completely adverse effect - I end up lying there tired, yes, but even more unable to sleep than before. Of course, since I probably wouldn't be getting to sleep anyway, it is as good a way as any of passing the time :)

I nest.

I don't make my bed in the morning, because that would defeat the purpose of pushing all the blankets up into the far top corner (whichever one is pressed against the wall). I get into bed in a pair of 'pajama' pants, which are basically black cotton workpants that I could probably where anywhere, and a camisole.

I still take the flying leap into bed (goddamn paranoia), but it's not an issue since the edge of my bed is about a foot and a half from my door (I live a closet... well, it might as well be a closet. Or a small storage room). Coil up against the corner, fluff up my nest by curling up my six or so blankets, with the pillows behind me (or sometimes around me like walls).

The computer (the monitor of which is shot to hell, so I just keep the modem running for the noise) hums away quietly, and my fan is turned on high because I can only sleep when it's cold in the room. Pitch black. Even the light from under the door (hall light, as my parents go to bed later than I do) are a bother, and if it really iritates me I've been known to shove a blanket in the way to block it out. If the moon is shining through my window, which doesn't have curtains, I burrow under the blankets so it won't bother me. I'm usually sort of leaning-sleeping flat on my back is a virtual impossibility.

Usually I drink hot tea first, and read a book with whatever my background music of choice happens to be (Phantom of the Opera, at the moment) playing in the background. Then I take the next two hours to actually sleep, and spend that time thinking about whatever it is I'm writing currently.

...also, I almost always fall asleep in automobiles. Dunno why, I just do. Bus, car, airplane, whatever. It can be a ten-minute ride, and there's still a good possibility I'll be half-asleep by the time we get there.

This is all presuming I'm sleeping at the time, of course. When I get really into something I go weeks without bothering. And even when I do, it's not so much refreshing as it is a way to waste 7 hours of my day. I still wake up tired anyway. Oh well.

Something Sciosa said just made me think - obviously this won't apply to him, but does anyone else have immense trouble sleeping in vehicles? I mean, when I went on my school Spanish trip, and the skiing trip, both 24 hour long coach journeys, I only got, what, 30 minutes on either, and even then because I literally couldn't keep my eyes open.

Naturally this may just be the insomnia striking again, but it's odd - I mean, I've fallen asleep on a knife ridge on top of a mountain in the middle of a gale/rainstorm, so surely it can't just be that? I've put it down to the sensation of movement, since when me and my family went to New Zealand, I didn't sleep a wink on the plane from Heathrow to Singapore (thirteen hours) or from Singapore to Auckland (nine hours) but during the six hours stopover in Singapore I barely had my eyes open at all!

I dunno, maybe I'm just really weird... wouldn't surprise me after all :D

I have weirdish sleeping habits - I can only have one pillow (even though two would be 100% better for me...), I leave my electric blanket on the "WARNING: HIGH" setting (which you're only meant to have on for 10 minutes, to warm the bed up before you actually get in it), and occasionally I have to sleep with my head where my feet usually go, simply because I can't get to sleep lying in the normal position.

Oh, and I absolutely cannot understand how people can fall asleep on their backs or fronts (maybe it's a breast-related thing), but I always have to curl up on my side.

I usually listen to Audio cassettes, but if I'm not at home, I listen to The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy on my mp3 player.

Lately I've been sleeping over at my boyfriend's... roughly more than 50% of the nights in a week. It's nice, though I still find it a bit tricky to find a position where we're not back to back, but also not all "Oh sorry, that's my hand in your... armpit?" "Yes, and your foot is... move that, would you?" "Ok, hang on... oops, was that your nose I just elbowed?" "I... think I might sleep on the floor tonight".

Also, I've discovered that apparently I'm a restless sleeper, in that I change positions a lot (not like that, gutterminds :p). Which is weird, since I always thought I slept like a rather drowsy log. Ah well.

All lights off, door left ajar, and I can't sleep under my blanket in the summer b/c I get overheated...

My husband's parents did that drive-around-to-make-the-baby-sleep thing, and he has the worst time trying not to fall asleep while driving. He did once, and rolled the car and bashed the window out with his head, so now he tries not to... let me tell you, I NEVER did that with my kid, although she sometimes does fall asleep while we're driving anyway.

As to sleeping, I used to sleep on my left side always, one very soft feather pillow squished up to perfection, one hand under the pillow. Then I got pregnant, and had to nest myself up with half a dozen pillows to even get myself comfortable to sleep at all. By the time I had the baby, I was so relieved to be able to sleep in some other position than on my side, I've gotten in the habit of sleeping on my stomach, all sprawled out. I also prefer the room to be fairly coldish (but not freezing or my nose gets too cold), and have a nice warm quilt on or so.

My husband has the amazing ability not only to fall asleep while driving, but any other time too. He fell asleep last month sitting under his grandmother's table, with his head leaned onto a chair seat. He falls asleep on the floor on a regular basis, sleeps in trains and planes, at a desk, sitting in the stairwell on his breaks at work, and pretty much anywhere he can relax his muscles enough without falling down and hurting himself.

By preference though, he follows the train of someone else in here, I forget who, and we have a "cave." As a kid, he had the bottom bunk and used to hang quilts from the top to make it darker. In college, he tried to get rooms with bottom bunks he could have, and hung blankets and quilts all around it. So when we got married, we went ahead and got a canopy bed. It was imposible to find non-filmy, flimsy clear gauze curtains for canopies, so I went ahead and found some faux-velvet curtains I could make fit on the bed, and we've got ourselves another cave. I love it, except in the summer it keeps heat in when I want the A/C kept in!

Oh, and I absolutely cannot understand how people can fall asleep on their backs or fronts (maybe it's a breast-related thing), but I always have to curl up on my side.

Lately I've been sleeping over at my boyfriend... roughly more than 50% of the nights in a week.

Yeah, well it's not totally a breast-thing, because unless you have implants or just are very... well endowed... your breasts will squish off to the sides if you lie on your stomach. The only times I find it very uncomfortable for those reasons is (because I'm still breast-feeding my baby) if I have too much milk in my chest, and it just gets absurdly uncomfortable.

Sleeping with someone takes practice. My husband still flips over and elbows me in the head once in a while, but at least it's not three or four times a night, with a black eye or bloody nose to boot. He had this habit of flipping over leading with his elbow about head-height. And still we've sort of worked out a way where mostly we sleep facing away from each other, back-to-back if we're touching... or alternatively with me leaning on his shoulder, him on his back, and me on my front. He likes that, but my neck can't take it for the whole night.

i like sleeping on my stomach with my left arm under my pillow and my right arm
wraped around the right side of the pillow. I like it when it is cold because i can sleep in my clothes then without sweating. sometimes i read a book or watch a movie to help me fall asleep but most of time i do not. i also wake up at between 1 and 2 am every night do not know why and stay awake for .5-2 hours. it has to be in total darkness except for an alarm clock. i like those small beds that are just a metal net put across the frame with a mattress over it i like to put boards under it to keep it more stable.

Curtains closed, lights off, duvet snuggled up around me, 'feotul' position on either my left of right side. Sometimes with headphones in and some good music playing quietly and peacefully in my ear...

Right side leads to sleep quicker...left is marginally more comfortable. It's all good :)

With a BAC of .2 or higher.

Preferably with a pillow, not necessarily in my own bed. Futon's, couches, random mattresses, armchairs, thick rugs and several other things work as well.

I sleep best on a firm mattress with a pillow top or a featherbed, with a medium fill down pillow, and percale weave sheets. The weather is starting to warm up where I live, so right now I also have a light blanket, and a comforter folded down to the foot of the bed in case I get cold. In the winter I have an extra blanket, and a down comforter instead of my summer one. These days I'm so tired I fall asleep within minutes of laying down no matter what, but usually I can't sleep if there's too much light in the room.

I'm kinda weird about noise, I can sleep through planes flying directly overhead and storms that rattle windows, but my alarm is set to wake me up with really quiet radio (can't stand beeping alarms, I once threw a boyfriend's one on the floor and broke it because the damn thing wouldn't shut off). Although, several months ago I had downstairs neighbours who would go out on their patio and swear at each other at the tops of their lungs at 4 am, and that was annoying.

In terms of sleepwear, right now I'm at the cami and boxers stage. In the winter it's a cami and pyjama pants, and when it really heats up it's cami and underwear. Sometimes I wear a really huge T-shirt I stole from my boyfriend - too big for him, waaaay too big for me (reaches to my knees, and you could probably fit three or four of me in it). It's old and raggedy, but soooo comfy. :D

I like to sleep:
On fresh clean 400+ ct sheets.
Between 68-72 degrees.
ALONE, except for maybe a cat.
Until I can't sleep no more, and then force myself to lay there another hour.
In the afternoon, when no one is home.

My doggy is sometime used as my big fluffy pillow, until he figures out I'm not going to pet him. :(

Yes yes, waking up, debating if it's worth getting up to pee, or hold it in and stay comfy.

Afternoons are too loud with the neighbors with quads and dirtbikes

Why not drink some coffee, so that you have the energy to relax?:p

You know, if you are at all ADHD, this works. I usually take a hit of Sudafed sometime before bed, but the effect is the same. Not for everyone mind you, just us rattle-heads. =D

I sleep on the floor by my front door, just in front of a microwave (which is also on the floor), a big TV box, some blue packing boxes, and a piano.

I don't have an air mattress or anything fancy. I sleep on bare carpet with a sleeping bag and a comforter covering me. As for pillows, I have one, which is folded over.

I haven't slept on a bed in ages... Almost a year, actually.

Forgot about pets. My dog sleeps on the bed with me, either next to me or at the foot of the bed. Sometimes he gets cold in the middle of the night or in the morning, and noses his way under the covers to curl up next to me.

My sleeping habits are rather odd. I have trouble winding down and getting to sleep and I'm an extremely light sleeper. Most nights the neighbors cat whining at their door outside wakes me up, and I'm 2 rooms away (although the doors are open between my room and the front door). If my neighbors are partying, sleep is out of the question until they shut the hell up. Sometimes even walking past my apartment outside will wake me up. Also, if something changes in the room I wake up immediately. I woke up because the power went out the other day, but that was because my computer in the other room shut off.

For some reason I keep switching between sleeping in my bed and on the couch. It's a completely arbitrary thing, but when I pick one I can't sleep on the other for a couple of days.

One thing that is kinda nice is that no matter what time I set my alarm for I wake up exactly 3 minutes before it is supposed to go off. I honestly don't remember what my alarm sounds like.

i have my mp3 player on random connected to my stereo at minimum volume and as much darkness as my blinds can provide (i work at night so there's always a bit of light coming in when i sleep). if i'm back at home i never close my curtains. always go to sleep on my front with one thin pillow or no pillow. often wake up on my back tho. always have to read a book before i go to bed too cuz otherwise i don't fall asleep. i just read til i pass out.

I generally sleep without music and often read myself to sleep, though that used to be exactly opposite for me over the past year before this one. I like to work out before I go to sleep to make sure I sleep well.

I'm kinda paranoid at nights....... I have to have at least one of my dogs (one's a German Shepherd, the other Pitt Bull) sleeping in bed with me, I have to have my axe within reach, and my window open (even if it's below zero f-heit----ALASKA ROCKS!!!!:D ), as well as knowing that everyone in the house is asleep. Even then, I'm up untill 3AM wandering, reading, grabbing snacks, etc. Or I just have to have a hard day's wrestling practice, get home around 6, then GOOD NIGHT! I'm out untill about oh...... seven. period. That's all the sleep I get those days.

You're cool, i like you :)

I sleep in a shark filled shark tank, placed in the middle of the scorching desert, placed on a big boat in space on fire with ice cold flames.

...did the camisole not tip you off? Female am I. I female am. Female I am. ;)

Odd how everyone assumes I'm male. Maybe it's leftover from when everyone in real life thought I was male too. The vibes must still be sticking.

*Blush* My apologies. Once more my natural instinct of 'they're online, they're probably male' kicks in at an inappropriate moment.

And asking me to not only notice minor details like what someone's written, but actually form an opinion based on that? What d'you think I am? Intelligent :D Well... I guess I am, but not at three in the morning. I shall remember henceforth, however, and hopefully won't make that mistake again.

Either :

- Open windows
- a soft pillow and a light enough blanket
- my little stuffed red elephant
- an episode of the "3 Fragezeichen" on my CD player, really quiet
- not total darkness

Or :

- snuggling up to someone after having totally exhausted each other f***ing

Both methods work eqaully well ;)

Is that through choice, or...?

I sleep in a bed usually, with 2 pillows and a duvet. I'm not too bothered about light or dark, so long as the sun isn't in my eyes. It needs to be quiet, although I'll usually drop off eventually. I always fall asleep on my side, usually my left.

If I'm camping, the comination of hard ground and a thin sleeping mat force me to sleep on my back. I always have an inflatable travel pillow with me, as I hate having my head tipped back.
