Hippos shouldn't be mistreated at zoos. :(

Why haven't they closed down the Vancouver zoo yet? They mistreat their animals AND they're almost bankrupt. Stop this insanity!

Normally, I'd agree with you - but this Hippo has information that is vital to national security.

Anyone think the ad below the picture is unintentionally humourous? It looks like the Japanese woman is staring straight up at the hippo.

That's the Chinese.
The Japanese eat Whale. She does have a hungry look in her eyes. Maybe she's mistaking poor Hazina for a whale.

The ad on mine was a boring one for a bank, no humour there I'm sorry to say.

Give me a break.

1) The hippo is obviously not mistreated. This is another glaring example of animal rights freaks throwing a fit over something that's a non-issue.

2) The animal rights freaks were responsible for causing the animal more stress and anxiety. Read the entire story.

3) Most animals raised in captivity have no idea how to survive in their "native habitat". Sure, let's stop animal captivity and release all these poor, abused animals. And watch them die within a week. Good plan, dipwads.

4) Get a life, if you actually believe the BS the animal rights freaks are spewing.

Ahh..It's changed. So that just leaves my post looking odd and lame.
Ah well. Not the first time.

No animal should be mistreated in zoos. In general zoos seam to be bad things - the last zoo I visited was in Berlin. It was horrible - it stank like the cages hadn't been cleaned in ages and one very mentally damaged-looking male lion had worn away the fur off part of its head by repeatedly rubbing its head along the cage bars as it constantly paced in a circle.

I wouldn't say the article gives enough information to make it particularly "obvious" either way. It does say that the hippo was kept in a concrete and wood enclosure, which is, if not active mistreatment, at least a sign of a pretty crappy zoo.

2) The animal rights freaks were responsible for causing the animal more stress and anxiety. Read the entire story.

Er, not exactly. As soon as anyone suggested the animal might be in any distress, the SPCA stopped the work that was distressing her. That doesn't sound like they're trying to cause her stress.

3) Most animals raised in captivity have no idea how to survive in their "native habitat". Sure, let's stop animal captivity and release all these poor, abused animals. And watch them die within a week. Good plan, dipwads.

Oh joy, a strawman. 'Cause, you know, this article was all about abolishing all zoos, and not at all about one particular animal in one particular zoo being kept in a crappy facility!

4) Get a life, if you actually believe the BS the animal rights freaks are spewing.

I'm sorry you have such hatred for anyone who tries to prevent cruelty to animals, which doesn't exactly seem like an intrinsically terrible goal to me. I'm well aware that some people go to ridiculous lengths to accomplish that goal, but that doesn't seem to explain the level of vitriol you feel towards all animal rights supporters. Some people would like to see this hippo kept in nicer conditions. What about that makes you so very angry?
