The only people listening will be those who voted for him, right? So who cares?

She should know it is inevitable.

She should know it is inevitable.

She likes Taylor Hicks, and 70's and 80's soft rock.

That and anyone who goes into a business establishment that plays the radio or works where they play the radio.

Oh no! I have no idea how to work the "off" button on my radio. I might have to turn the volume down for 3min!

Well she's why Taylor Hicks will play a 70's/80's soft rock song. He'll play to his fan base, the "Soul Patrol."

She likes it, therefore it's not boring to her, therefore she has no trouble staying awake?

Well she's why Taylor Hicks will play a 70's/80's soft rock song. He'll play to his fan base, the "Soul Patrol."

And that's a bad thing? He'll be happy, his fans will be happy, and you can temporarily turn off your radio.

I am just saying that people will hear it and be able to recognize it.

As for me, I work 8-10 hours every weekday, and my workplace plays Atlanta's easy listening station. I will hear Taylor Hicks four or five times a day. I am not complaining, as the other stuff isn't good, and anything different is welcome.

Hell, the record execs may actually pick a good song for him.

Lost me at American Idol. Sorry, but I have two active brain cells, thereby making me at least two times too intelligent to watch that crap.

All of them, in a medley, with Lynyrd Skynyrd playing in the background.

Unfortunately for Taylor Hicks, I don't see him translating well to the radio.

He really isn't that great of a singer, he is just really energetic in his stage performances. Studios and most record producers just aren't good at portraying that energy into recordings.

I've had a love-hate relationship with radio and television my entire life... I'll be honest, I average about two hours of television per week - but I completely gave up on radio about ten years ago. I just can't bear listening to what someone else thinks I ought to like...

You are just too full of yourself.

I never watched a full show, but I saw some of the performances.

First: You can't be to full of yourself, and

Second: The music of the 70/80's isn't shitty. Just all the new band sufffering from a lack of creativity covering the songs of the period have made it seem that way.

I can't be bothered watching weekly programs for the most part. It's too demanding, having to pay attention to schedules and whatnot.

Except for the news, my use of the television is almost entirely random. I'll just see what's on offer at any given time...

I'm too full of myself to admit that I like 70s/80s music.

I do actually dislike most of it, though.

There is not a single show I schedule time to watch, but I will flip through stations whenever I am bored or watching sports.

It is just that TV is dumb entertainment in the first place, saying you are too smart for a particular show is a little hypocritical.

The music of the 70/80's isn't shitty.
Dude, you're not entirely right. Apply Sturgeon's Law - "Ninety percent of everything is crud." There was shitloads of awful music from the 70s and 80s, music so bad I'd scarcely deign to use the discs the music's burned on as beer-coasters.

What made it all so appalling was the high-rotation airplay this crap received in its' day. There's lotsa music that gets commented on, in these forums, by well-intentioned teenagers who weren't around for the decade-long bludgeoning of 'Hotel California', the six-month stint of the brain-melting 'Radio Ga-Ga', or the inexplicable persistence of shitmeisters Styx, Kansas, Foreigner, or any one of literally dozens of bands with one-word names, all of whom were, through-and-through, nothing more than radio-filler intended to act as a type of aural glue to string endless repeats of hit songs by all the usual suspects.

The more apt point is that whatever they pick for Hicks will suck.

I think I'll pass. The spelling there sucks too.
