They're making Fast and the furious 3: Tokyo Drift
What kind of stupid, *** movie is that? 2 of them was enough, and I still feel cheated by watching #2 slough it's way through my TVs crap system and spending 2 hours watching it do so.
Lame..just lame...a movie about drifting...

Personally, I'm going with a plan of not watching it...
I'm half way interested due to I want to see where they plan to race and drift, especially as Tokyo is one large gridlock 24/7.

They're not 'making,' they made. It comes out this week(EDIT:Haha, an ad just came on, I was wrong. June 16. All the making has been done.
What, you don't have a remote? (which, by the way, is the excuse I'm going with for having watched that last night. Good lord, who keeps putting Eva Mendes in movies...incidently, I worked with (and smoked out with...quality) the guy who played the cop that they put the rat on.)

They'll fake that funk, just like when they do a movie in San Francisco and someone finds parking on demand...

Horray, another movie for me to completely ignore.

That sounds like just a blatant rip-off of "Initial D", a Japanese movie about Drift racing, which in turn was based on a comic book of the same name.
If you're into car racing movies, check it out. Has some great race scenes in it.

Oh I know, the preview I saw didn't seem to take place anywhere close to Tokyo, but it would be fun to go to point and laugh.

Being on the same subject matter doesn't automatically make something a rip off-all baseball movies aren't rip offs of the first baseball movie, or as I like to say,
"Portriat. Pff. Perhaps you haven't heard of the Mona Lisa..."

Yeah, but we're talking about XXX III, here. Do you really think the makers have ever had an original idea in their lives?
Plus, the decision to make this movie came out pretty soon after 'Initial D' came out in Asia, and it was one of the biggest movies over here when it did.
So it smacks of plaguerism and cash-in, if not rip-off.

Triple X and the Fast and Furious franchise, while initially from the same dude, are different entities.
Initial D did not invent the 'drifting' trend, it's been 'hot' enough for a while now for more than one group to go to that well. They even made a drifing car on Monster Garage. Initial D did what Tokyo Drift or Gotham Street Racing or any of the other number of shows, games, articles, or whatnot did that have come out in the wake of the popularity of drifting have done. You simply didn't draw the line far enough.
EDIT: I don't want there to be any confusion, I am not saying that Tokyo Drift will even be watchable, much lest good.

Okay, that's even more of a stretch than the Initial D thing (which I just looked up came out in June of last year-you cannot do a cold start to release in a year, especially with a movie that requires stunts and effects. And Initial D does not appear to be about an American moving in with his uncle in Japan to avoid a jail sentence and getting caught up in the underworld racing scene)
And it doesn't appear to be an ensemble comedy/road movie about a rally race across Japan, either. Fuckin' a, people...

actually Initial D was out longer. the fans were subbing the series in the late 1990's
there were two seasons of the series, two Specials, and one Movie before it came over to America.
and I agree, Fast and Furious is not the same as Initial D. Inital D has a much better story than Fast and Furious.

I was really talking about the (live action)movie, since that was given as the match. And that movie opened in Beijing in June of 2005 and the US in October of that year. I see that the series came out in 1998.

Come now, you're just splitting hairs. A movie is made which is a huge hit in Asia and within weeks of it becoming one, American producers decide to make a movie that is based on the same premise and you say 'Oh, that's been popular for years. It's just coincidence'.

Oh for Pete's sake...
Again, you cannot make a movie like this from cold start to release in 12 months. Sorry Bob, can't be done. Drifting has indeed been popular for years and a slew of products have come out capatilizing on it. If you haven't noticed until Initial D I that would be an isolated problem. Here's Occam's Razor-Initial D and Tokyo Drift went to the same well as Gotham Street Racing, Monster Garage, numerous programs on numerous cable shows and every other thing that has capitilized on that trend has-as is prone to happen and has happened over and over and over again since the dawn of media and trends. Because that's how it fucking works.

How on earth does Occam's Razor apply here? Why are we suddenly tryin to decide which theory better explains the situation, or failing that, which theory uses fewer concepts?

These movies promote more inexperienced agressive driving and the most ludacris aftermarket add-ons to piece of shit cars.
As soon as the movie is released, be prepared for stupid driving behavior to go back through the roof.

i just want to know why movies set in japan can't have japanese actors in them
i saw the trailer twice and each time i assumed that the movie was set in hongkong because the asian male actors all looked chinese. making the mistake a second time caused me to look up the cast list and i only saw one japanese name on the list and that was a woman.

They should make a film about guys in a shitbox semi truck who go around plowing into these shithead racers. Not only would it drive home a little danger reality, but it would probably result in less people putting underlighting on their shitty econocars.
