well, i just got home from a couple of (great!) days at glitziness', and it appears my family are out..... possibly for many an hour, for all i know. as usual their mobiles are either off, out of battery, or left in the hallway so i can hear it ringing when i try to call... and guess what? i didn't take my housekeys
BUT we do have wi-fi and i have my laptop with me, which means they could be out pretty much all night as far as i care, cos i've got the wonders of the internet to keep me company! god i do love wi-fi :)
think the neighbours would mind much if i whipped it out and wanked away to free internet porn out here in the middle of the garden? do ya think? ... :D
(ooh a thought - if they are out inexplicably all night... no bother, you can order dominos pizza off the net! woo! :p)
anyway, anyone else love wi-fi as much as i do right now? what crazy places do you find yourself using this wonder of modern technology? myself, i find the toilet a odd place to post from (i still do it though :P)
But how long does your laptop battery last? And then, you know, you might get tired...
Anyway, as my parents like to password-protect our DSL line, I rely mainly on our neighbours' modem for internet sustenance. So yes, wi-fi owns.

there's a park at the end of the road here, and i'd love to somehow extend our wifi to about 500 meters to be able to take the laptop there to work in the summer :)
oh and battery is another 1 hour 10 mins... i'm guessing they'll be back before then. if not, i'll be mildly annoyed

Hmm... Wireless is microwaves, right?
Maybe you could modulate the 750 watt emitter from a Category D oven? That should be plenty of range. Use a catering-size bean tin to direct the beam away from anyone you know or care about, it should be fine. You might want the antenna some way from your laptop, though.

When 3/4ths of the forum knows her real name, and I can think of 3 abbreviations off the top of my head, there really shouldn't be a reason to post the entire NS name as well. Saves time. :p

1) It's Grammar Nazi. Mechanics Nazi if you want to be specific.
2) Ummm...Why isn't it Glitziness'?
So long as nobody says "Amies' house" ;)
That is an abomination of insanity in and of itself... I shudder with horror at the very thought.

I thought that said "Arnies' house".

With proper names, one always adds an s on the end. With nouns ending in s, one doesn't. Thus
"Jesus's teachings"
"Squornshelous's postcount"
but
"the butlers' convention"
"the schoolgirls' uniforms"
Clear? Good. Zip.

Ah, I see. *opens notepad*
And not the one on the computer, I found a real notepad on the desk, so I'm using that.

2) Ummm...Why isn't it Glitziness'?
1) I was only picking on the punctuation...
2) Historical/classical figures get away without an 's' after the apostrophe (eg. "Jesus' Disciples") as do plurals, wheras modern singulars don't ("Chris's Disciples"). I don't know why, I just remembered the rules (I hope ;) ).
I'm pretty certain about the historical thing (to Czardas), even though it's a really odd exception...
Edit: A better explanation than mine:
http://www.cogs.susx.ac.uk/doc/punctuation/node22.html
Which says "a name ending in s takes only an apostrophe if the possessive form is not pronounced with an extra s" and then gives a few historical/classical examples.

LOL...
Oddly enough, just today I was discussing with someone the potential humor behind watching foreign language scat "porn" on public transport. "Turn it off!" "I can't! It's a virus!" *feigns panic*

Is it? :/
So...having a computer in my room on almost 24/7 connected to the internet is slowly but surely giving me radiation poisoning and/or brain tumours?
I wonder if that explains why i've been feeling generally crap lately.
*warily eyes antenna less than 1m away from him...*

Probably not, it's very low power. Mobile 'phone transmitters must use loads more (I guess, due to their longer range) and it's been shown that they're unlikely to cause ill effects in the short term, I think.

Hm, I like the "probably not". :p
Heh, the truth is that we don't know for sure what effect they're going to have even though they appear to be completely safe.
Ah well. It's either wi-fi or no internets for me.
*shrugs* I think that one's an obvious decision. :p
