I read them when I was in the Navy (mid 90's) and they weren't new then. Don't remember the author or titles.
Basic plot: Group of gamers, including a parapalegic who plays a beserker dwarf, get zapped into thier game. Other characters: thief who gets killed early. Classic fighter type and main focus of story. Wizard who needs to memorize spells like in D&D. Most of his spell components got destroyed during the crossover. Clerics included a "spider" group and another. There was also a dragon that they group rescued from a garbage pit.
The main antagonists were the "Slavers Guild". The group defeats them by introducing gunpowder and firearms.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Just a wild guess ... Joel Rosenberg's "Guardians of the Flame"?

Those books have to be older than mid 90's, however, because I was reading them in high school, and I graduated in 1987. When you started describing them, though, I knew what they were right away.
