Well in the UK this holiday weekend 50 people were stabbed with 2 people dead. Is knife crime getting out of control in the UK? Or is it something that has been going for a long time but only just recently highlighted? is the knife like the gun in the USA?

*shrug* If they can't get a gun they'll use something else?

So much for the "amnesty" working to reduce knife crime.

You do realise that 50 is approximately the number of people in a nation of over sixty million that will be stabbed over any given two-day period, don't you? -_-

I haven't seen anything about this on any news sites, do you have a source for your claim of 50?

Are knife threads the new gun threads? There's been a few over the last couple of days.

And if 50 people were shot, how many do you think would die?
My guess, more than 2.

Well, I suppose it depends on the gun, for them to be able to even shoot 50 people. And for the heck of it, I guess 1 person would die.

That would be where I got the story from.

Great way to ignore the point of my post.
Tell me - were 50 people stabbed mentioned in the first post with the same knife?
No?
Then why did you feel the need to convolute this round into 50 people shot by one gun?

In England and Wales in 2004/05 (presumably a one year timespan) there were 820 murders. 29% by a sharp implement. (Source (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5010954.stm))
So, in a two day period you'd expect 2*0.29*820/365 knife murders, or about 1.303. Considering bank holiday weekends are always busy, two doesn't seem statistically significant.
Until you realise one of those was actually in Scotland, so those two days in England and Wales had about 0.303 fewer knife murders than the average two-day period last year.

I love statistics.

the OP is about as relevant as the following in terms of weapons bans:

Since 1962, more than one million Americans have died in firearm homicides, suicides, and unintentional shootings. Handguns were used in more than 650,000 of these fatal shootings.7

In 1997—the most recent year available—there were 89 firearm deaths per day, or a firearm death every 16 minutes.8

In homes with guns, a member of the household is almost three times as likely to be the victim of a homicide compared to gun-free homes.9

*shrug* Dunno. That part didn't matter much. You guessed more than 2 would be killed, I guessed one would be killed.

If you banned knives, people would just get their heads bashed in with tire irons.

The murder rates of various countries has nothing to do with the weapons involved. The higher murder rate in the United States has nothing to do with guns. If guns were banned here, the murder rate would still be higher than in the U.K.

In fact, since the murder rate in the U.K. has risen since the guns were banned, I would think that the british would be the first to admit that there is no correlary between murders and guns.

That isn't to say that the murder rates of various countries can't be reduced. Obviously, there are controllable factors that can reduce violent crime rates, but the limitation of certain types of weapons isn't one of them.
Not bad

The problem isnt just knives it's bank holidays. Ban them. I wonder what % of these murderous stabbings included one or both parties consuming alcohol? Just in case it isnt a high number let's ban alcohol too . Cant be too safe. It's for your own good and safety. Nanny thanks you.
