Haven't seen this one posted on NS yet, so here we go:

http://www.orgburo.com/pofoquiz/pofo.php

My results:

Overall, the PoliticsForum quiz considers you a socially-orientated, theist, small-government, protectionist, controlled-market kind of person, who also seems quite Marxist.

These characteristics would put you in the overall category of Marxist. Your natural home at PoliticsForum would be the Communism area.

Below, on this page, is an analysis of the (up to) eight categories that you were sorted into above, and an explanation of how you scored on the eight scales used to determine these categorisations.

The pages following this one show the breakdown of results for all participants on each question. You can freely navigate through the pages by using the hyperlinks in the top right of each page.

Individual vs Social

"The individualist believes that society works best through a focus on individual rights, freedoms, actions and responsibilities. The social thinker believes that the ideal state should focus more upon collective action and take a social approach to rights and responsibilities."

Theist vs Materialist

"The materialist believes that all objective criteria to influence politics can be reasonably derived without recourse to the divine or the spiritual. The theist believes that spiritual beliefs are important and should influence government policy."

* 12% of test takers were more theist than you.
* 87% of test takers were more materialist than you.

Big Government vs Small Government

"The big government advocate believes that governments should be responsible for regulating a wide array of social practices, even what might be considered personal decisions such as abortion, euthanasia, children's education and births. Few things wrong about this test. For example, since WHEN am I a thiest? (Not athiest, a thiest) And how did I get to be so nationalist? And absolutist!

I don't like the questions in that test. There are too many on issues I don't give a damn about, and not nearly enough on things I find important. Also, it called me a marxist. Just because I hate religion, support labor unions, and am willing to join a revolution doesn't make me a marxist.

I don't like the option answers to this question:
21. I believe that abortion is right:

Never
Only when the mother's life is endangered
Whenever the mother wants to abort
Other

Specifically the 'Whenever the mother wants to abort', as that implies right up to birth. It also implies that abortion is a casual matter that's taken lightly.
It's worded badly and could force one into clicking the 'other' option, and I wonder how that would affect their scoring of you.

The first question on each page (including the one on abortion) is not counted toward one's score. The results section displays one's various answers, but everyone's responses to these particular questions are presented for general interest.

Well, how can you be free trade and controlled market at the same time?

"Free trade," within the context of this quiz, refers to that trade that moves across international borders. Therefore, one may keep restrictions on the market process at home, while rejecting larger restrictions between states at the global level.

For instance, one may be an internationalist socialist, somekind of decentralized mixed market/socialism. Keep trade regulations decentralized at a low level, while preventing the rise of more obtrusive international regulation. I suppose one need not necessarily be of the internationalist persuasion either; something along the lines of economic regulation coupled with strong support for national sovereignty. (<------ like, say, the People's Republic of China)

Of course, now that I think about it, a perfect example of "free trade + controlled market" would be the People's Republic of China. Although an increasingly capitalist domestic economic system, it is still highly controlled and regulated by the state. None the less, China has made moves, including membership in the WTO, to increase its access to world commerce and associated "free trade."

Also, it called me a marxist. Just because I hate religion, support labor unions, and am willing to join a revolution doesn't make me a marxist.

You know, you might be a marxist without realising it.

And what you said there sounds quite marxist.

You could even be quite conservative and be marxist. One of my history lecturers called Maggie Thatcher Marxist. What he meant was that he thinks she saw the world in a Marxist way, but came to opposite conclusions to Marx on what should be done. Ie, the problems Marx saw, she didnt see as problems.

43 on individual vz social.

27 on theism

29 on Big Government. ( probably because I do believe in every fiber of my body and soul that ecological issues are so darned important to the very survival of the human race that I don't give a hoot which individual has to be shot in order to achieve Kyoto-standards and beyond. )

61 for Internationalist. I'm quite happy with that.

Dead neutral on free trade vz protection.

67 for non-absolutist. Right answers are relative. No funking and copping out, just try to do the best with the limited available info.

40 for controlled market. See: Big Government.

73 non-Marxist. Good. I consider Marxism a crime against Humanity.

There are some sloppy questions in there, anyway. For example:

"I believe abortion is right:"

If I hold that moral truths don't exist, then nothing is either right or wrong, no I would hold that abortion is never right, but that's not what the test thinks I mean when I say that. It's assuming that if I think abortion is never right then I also think that it is always wrong, and that's simply untrue.

Or:

"There are classes of people in society and some classes exploit others."

That question, I suspect, assumes I think that's a bad thing.

Or:

"The best things in life aren't things."

Well of course they are. To deny that things are things is absurd. But again, I don't think that's the question the test thinks it's asking.

The results turned out pretty well for me, but I do think the test was sloppily written. So don't worry if the old results don't suit you.

I agree. For instance, I am a capitalist revolutionary who believes in certain capitalist ideologies and follows certain philosophers - however, voting options pertaining to revolutions, ideology, theory and such would brand me as a Marxist, which is utterly incorrect.

In any case, people who are more or less consistent on the test should get results which suit them. Mine are mostly correct.

I would contest the "Controlled Market vs Liberal Market" result. Many of the regulatory functions that people automatically assume fall under "government" can be put into place just fine via the mechanism of otherwise non-statist voluntary association of individuals (social welfare functions especially in the form of mutual aid, cooperatives, etc; statist welfare will always meet my personal opposition).

The other times I've taken this test, I have been labeled a "libertarian," a "socialist" and even one time a "libertarian with a hint of socialism."

I just like how the concept of "anti-authoritarian socialist" makes some people's heads explode (usually those who pine for the Cold War-style apocalyptic struggle between the forces of evil, etc). It's quite entertaining. :D

(edit:  Didn't realise this thread had been exhumed. Oh well, here are my previous "Libertarian with a hint of Socialism" results. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11055445&postcount=19) :D )

Overall, the PoliticsForum quiz considers you a theist, protectionist, controlled-market kind of person.

These characteristics would put you in the overall category of social conservative protectionist. Your natural home at PoliticsForum would be the Conservatism area. Not too surprised by this... the anarchist quiz in a previous thread stated that I was a Christian Anarchist.... followed secondly by Commu-narchist(80%) with Capit-archist/Syndachist(sp?)both in 3rd(70%).

Individual vs Social

"The individualist believes that society works best through a focus on individual rights, freedoms, actions and responsibilities. The social thinker believes that the ideal state should focus more upon collective action and take a social approach to rights and responsibilities."

Individual; Social
You scored 45 out of 100 on a scale of Individual vs Social. This means that politically you are neither more nor less likely to value the need for group actions and group benefit over individual enterprise and benefit. As someone else previously stated(I think), balance is good.

Theist vs Materialist

"The materialist believes that all objective criteria to influence politics can be reasonably derived without recourse to the divine or the spiritual. The theist believes that spiritual beliefs are important and should influence government policy."

Theist; Materialist
You scored 14 out of 100 on a scale of Theist vs Materialist. This means that politically you are less likely to believe that religion and spirituality are superstitions that should not inform political debate. While I would(hopefully)be amonst those in open rebellion if the government or an international body should make some sort of official church that ALL must follow or outright ban any or all religions in both public AND private(book burning=BAD), I also don't think those who have faith in whatever should necessarily be penalized for reading religious texts or attempting consult a diety for insight or whatever(preferably, in private and not in the media's spotlights). I mean, sheesh!! Should we fire public officials for reading various philosophers because some of them either had a belief in some sort of diety/dieties, or at the very least had mentions Him/Her/Them in their writings? That being said, I happen find the amount of politicians(in the U.S.)as of late all trying to be first to admit that "they have Faith in G-O-D!!! YAY!!!" increasingly more and more annoying. Especially when one considers how many of the few people that bother to vote base their vote more on their political parties' extreme stances and big media rather than what the politicians have actually proven to believe in(ala voting records and perhaps other avenues of information, when available). Which, by the way, isn't nearly enough in my opinion-voting based on one's intellect than emotions, that is.

Big Government vs Small Government

"The big government advocate believes that governments should be responsible for regulating a wide array of social practices, even what might be considered personal decisions such as abortion, euthanasia, children's education and births. A small government advocate thinks that, wherever possible, these issues should be up to individuals or companies to direct."

Big Gov;Small Gov
You scored 44 out of 100 on a scale of Big Government vs Small Government. This means that politically you are neither more nor less likely to believe that government should keep out of legislating social policies, leaving such decisions to individuals. Again, balance is a good thing. Sometimes, Big Gov. is necessary and maybe even good(don't make me think up reasons why-I've been having trouble sleeping this week). Other times, we want the government to go away. We don't care where, just as long as it's AWAY.

Nationalist vs Internationalist

"The nationalist believes in the sovereign rule of nation states, particularly his or her own. The internationalist believes that there should be more important international fora and perhaps, ultimately, international government."

National;International
You scored 46 out of 100 on a scale of Nationalist vs Internationalist. This means that politically you are neither more nor less likely to favour international bodies over national ones. Right now, in this particular era of the world, balance is somewhat necessary for stability. Unless a wake-up call event like in "The Day the Earth Stood Still" or something equally impressive were to happen, it appears to me that nationalism vs. internationalism will be somewhat at a stalemate for, atleast, the near future. Of course, a world shattering event may very well cause humanity to blow itself into oblivion, but I'm hoping more towards world peace:D.

Protectionist vs Free Trader

"The protectionist believes in barriers against free trade most probably due to a belief that this is in his or her country's interests. The free trader rejects such notions, believing that the system ultimately suffers when tariffs, subsidies and other obstacles to free trade persist."

Protection;Free-Trade
You scored 28 out of 100 on a scale of Protectionist vs Free Trader. This means that politically you are less likely to favour free trade over protectionist policies. I just feel that right now, not everyone is playing fair and by the same rules-especially the biggest players. No real proof that I can think of right now, I just will continue being a bit protectionist until I know for certain that the richer nations(or should I say the big multi-national corporations?)aren't just trying to gat as close to actual, old-time slave labor, and the poorer nations(or, I should say, SOME of their leaders)aren't just trying to somehow get back at the not-so-poor nations for being royaly screwed over in the past(at the price of their citzens' overall welfare). As previously stated, I am kinda tired, so you may ignore this part as pseudo-ramblings that may have more to do with job-outsourcing than the actual idea of free-trade.

Absolutist vs Non-Absolutist

"The absolutist believes that either a divine presence or scientific laws provide absolute truths about the world, which can and should be applied in practise. The non-absolutist may be either a relativist, or simply someone who is more pragmatic."

Absolute;Non-Absolute

You scored 52 out of 100 on a scale of Absolutist vs Non Absolutist. This means that politically you are neither more nor less likely to believe that there is an absolute truth that may guide your ideological beliefs. Or in otherwords-I live in some odd shade of grey. Doesn't that make me MORE of a non-absolutist, being all in the grey area and all?

Controlled Market vs Liberal Market

"Both of these categories assume a capitalist system. Assuming this system, the controlled market believer holds that government should intervene in regulating a nation's economy: wage laws, environmental standards, privatised industries and workplace relations policy. A liberal market thinker believes that such regulation is unnecessary and often counter-productive."

Controlled;Liberal

You scored 37 out of 100 on a scale of Controlled Market vs Liberal Market. This means that politically you are more likely to believe that there is need for government regulation of industry. Still fairly close to being in the middle-if I'm right and 40 is the lowest for being neither/nor. Maybe it's 42? Still, not to far from being in the middle. Which basically means that, yes, I think business should be controlled, but no, I don't want business smothered into oblivion.

Marxist vs Non-Marxist

"This scale purports to show to what extent you follow the thought and teachings of Marx. Marxists tend to be scientific, materialist and revolutionary, believe in class struggle and the laws of historical and dialectic materialism."

Marxist; Non-Marxist
You scored 44 out of 100 on a scale of Marxist vs Non-Marxist. This means that politically you are neither more nor less likely to follow the philosophies of Marx. Communism/socialism are nice to fantasize about. It would be even nicer if everyone were genuinely good and nice and got along so that it the theories could play out(just not sure right now which theory I prefer more). Of course, this certainly is NOT going to happen in my lifetime, so I'll continue enjoying and despising the various aspects of capitalism, while playing in my own little dreamworld paradise.
