I have a cockatiel that I know for sure is atleast 18 years old. Is there anyway to more accurately find his age? This bird is probably older than I am (Not hard, but hey).
He's a male cockatiel, BTW. A Pied I think-yellow face, etc. I'll post pics tommorow when I can get him out in the sun for good close ups.
Take a coring from his femur and count the growth rings?

Think he'd be to tough to eat? Or maybe enough for a stew?

There is no real way to tell. A veterinarian can do an endoscopy and look at the internal organs to approximate an age but that is stressful for the bird, they don't do well on anesthesia.
A yellow face doesn't make him a pied BTW. Pied means there are splashes of yellow or white that aren't on a normal grey. The yellow face is on all normal males. So is the white band on the wings.
