Below is the story of the firefight:

As a gunbattle raged around him, Pfc. Jerod Dennis ran a mile up a road in Afghanistan to get help for a wounded American soldier.

Although he was later killed in the fight, Dennis single-handedly provided cover for soldiers caught in an ambush.

Dennis, Sgt. Kevin Feliciano and Airman 1st Class Raymond Losano were remembered Thursday in a ceremony at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum downtown.

The 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, dedicated a stone in honor of the paratroopers who died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The stone will be placed in the garden area in front of the museum.

Hats off to all Military Vets. Thank you for doing that which I could not, and the Sacrifices you gave so that we can stand here and enjoy the Freedoms and Liberties that they bought us.

To all veterans of all conflicts, from all nations, I mourn the position you were placed in.

"...and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." ~ Isaiah 2:4

Until that day.

You did what you presumably thought would help others. That being the case, it was thoughtful of you to have done so.

God hasn't rebuked us yet, so that doesn't apply.

Go take your political bullshit and start another thread.

Nor do I. I've met many veterans who would like to see that day.

Take your wishes to another thread. Mankind will never be without war or death...nothing you nor I can do about it. Man is naturally wicked and evil.

No, no I think I'll stay right here. It's a relatively free forum, after all.

And you're no prophet - it's not vain, or even unreasonable, to hope that we might stop killing each other.

Mankind isn't naturally wicked or evil, either. Hell, mankind isn't naturally anything - this any anthropologist can tell you. Besides, that presupposes a universal definition of wickedness and evil. Such universality doesn't exist.

Under what context is a tribute to veterans not political?

Thank you veterans.

It is unfortunate, at times, that in helping to ensure freedom of speech you have preserved the good along with the twats. I hope that you would not wish you had done differently. We need the twats too, not to try to break up a thread of thanks, because that is just selfishly rude and serves no real purpose of the twats or others, but sometimes to point out injustices we might not otherwise see.

Here is my toast to the veterans, may your remaining days be free of selfish twats.

War is a terrible thing. I hope that someday, in some way, mankind evolves beyond it. Until then...I salute all veterans for their service. Seriously. I'm standing up at attention right now, trying to type this with one hand while saluting with the other.
