Although the 360 kicks ass, I think the PS 3 is going to dominate. The Wii has too stupid a name to appeal to people over 12.

Tossup between PS3 and Wii. Playstation has been ahead of Nintendo for the most part, but there's just no beating Legend Of Zelda.

...As long as they head back to the style of animation from the '64 games rather than the Gamecube one. Wind Waker was a step in the wrong direction, in my opinion.

With the Wii's price announcement and indication for backwards compatability, I'm inclined to believe it may do far better than I'd expected it to originally.

The 360 has done well to claim the early market. The Wii has gone for a great approach in taking its own side of the Gaming scene and going for the fun, multiplayer games. However, the very degree to which the PS3 works will be the real measure of its success as a venture rather than its economic gain. The Cell processor is being prototyped with the PS3, and as long as it actually runs more technologically advanced software than its competitors, it doesn't matter how much of a profit it makes.

Interestingly BOTH Microsoft and Sony have encouraged people to buy a Wii alongside their 360/PS3.

On the one hand it means they don't see it as competition, on the other it means they're playing pretty much the way Nintend want them to...

And with a good 360 plus a Wii costing about as much (going on nintendo's habit of releasing consoles at about $200) as a PS3 here in Blighty...

OK like I'd get a PS3 or 360 on anything but a secondhand, too costly for me but it's a thought.

360, no question. PS3 is absurdly expensive for next to no real benefit compared to other systems (despite what dogmatic fanboys will tell you), the Wii is just another retarded Nintendo attempt to sell to the "family" market.

I didn't know Resident Evil was a 'family' game. What with the 18 rating and all.

I may be wrong of course...

But I didn't realise 'family entertainment' meant cutting yakuza thugs apart with a katana (Red Steel anyone?).

Try actually, y'know, looking at the games on a console rather than just seeing Mario and saying 'OMG T3H KIDDIEZ'.

I'd love to see an Metal Gear Solid spinoff on the Wii. Imagine CQB, or actually being able to get those headshots with silenced pistols without taking 20 seconds aiming correctly...

I think the Wii will be the king of FPS and strategy games for consoles. RPG's and actions games, PS3 will win, but cost effectiveness, it will be a battle between microsoft and sony.

Well Kojima managed to get Solid Snake into Smash Brothers so who knows...

That's actually a bloody good idea too. Might stop them having to make half the game into a film as well (I would get Twin Snakes again but it's still at about 25 quid most places and for a few hours gameplay and the same again in movies... No ta).

I don't much care. It'd be kinda nice to see Sony get a kicking (just because they've been on top for too long, they're getting arrogant and I dislike the PS control pads), but I haven't really cared about a console since the Megadrive. Although the original X-Box had nice controllers before they diddified them. Got one for my PC from Ebay.

I admit I have a GBA, but I use it to play old Megadrive games mostly (Ecco the Dolphin! James Pond! Sonic the Hedgehog! Hurrah! :D).

Why the hell did nentendo change the name to Wii. Revolution sounds better.

Really, when naming a gameconsole there are 3 rules you must follow:

1) It should sound Cool.
2) It should not be a one-syllable name.
3) It should say something about the game console.

All game console names follow these rules except for the nintendo Wii, which barely even follows rule 3 unless you look at it in the official font.

They changed the name just so it would follow rule 3, which the name Revolution did, when it already did, and now it breaks the first two rules. Shame on you, nintendo. This makes your console seem to be even worse then your GayCube, which sucked arse.

And your Stupid remotebased controller alienatedeven more developers, as they will all have to rework the controls. Your consoles never had any good 3rd party titles, and your horrible controller design made this problem much worse. shame on you nintendo. This will make your consoles even less popular because the only games you make are annoying little kid games.

Its funny how your critical of nintendo, and yet seem to have an obvious bias against them.

The renaming to the Wii was brilliant. It gave nintendo a very large publicity boost. Much more important than a simple name. I wouldn't be surprised if they renamed it yet again.

The controller is an innovation. I would honestly rather have 5 or 6 cheap, fun Wii games, than a PS3 with a minimum double the cost, maybe the same amount of good games, and a bunch of somewhat fun games.

Alienation? The DS seems to be doing incredible, and its alot different than any other handheld out there. Has more fun games for it than almost any other console/handheld I can think of, that had been out for the same amount of time.

Kiddie? I will enjoy Red Steel and Resident evil along with super smash brothers and zelda, thank you.

Which is why Ubisoft, Capcom, Konami et al are lining up to develop titles for the Wii. Oh, right *sound of argument collapsing*

And why Square Enix (which started out making NES games, Final Fantasy anyone?) is making more games for Nintendo. *argument caves in*

And if you think any of the Legend of Zelda games are 'kids games' you've never played them. Even Wind Waker, for all the cartoonish graphics was a hell of a game. *more of a subjective point I guess but the we can still insert the sound of that creepy mask guy raping your argument through the pants here*

(If no-one noticed, yes I'm a Nintendo fan. More as a reaction to people calling the GC 'kiddie' while I blow zombies apart and run over old ladies on it. Not the most mature of activities I know but hey...)

Wii.
Simple name that's easy to remember. If you aren't really informed, you could easily get Xbox, Gamecube, and Playstation mixed up. I mean, to the uninformed, the names can get confusing.

Also, playstation sounds like a toy. It's a station you play with. Gamecube sounds more rediculous than Wii. Xbox. Give me a break. Does the X stand for Xtreme? Sounds corny.

Now Wii, that sounds weird and intriging. It doesn't sound lame like Gamecube, corny like Xbox, or somewhat kiddie like Playstation. Face it, current gen names suck. Plus, try to write Playstation or Xbox in Japanese. Easier to write Wii.

Also, there's the controller. It's familiar, yet strange. Simple, yet complex. Unless you've been playing for years, you will find it hard to use a Playstation or Xbox controller, especially with shooters where you often have to manipulate both sticks at the same time while pressing shoulder buttons. Pretty damn hard.

Now, with the wii, it's simple. circle button on front. Start and select. trigger. Move Wiimote around. Simpler than X, circle, square, A, B, left stick, right stick, R3 that they never told you about and that took you months to discover because there's no button marked R3. Is R1 on top or bottom. Which one was Z again? See my point.

Then there's the price. $2000 for a dev. kit, compared to PSP's $20,000 or PSOne's $4000. Price per game? $50 or less. Per system. Less than or equal to $250.

Actually it comes from DirectX. The Xbox was basically a Pentium 3 and a Geforce FX, in other words it could use the DirectX gaming program. It makes some kind of sense that way.

Well the Wii doesn't track the remote properly inside about 3' so it probably stops you exploiting it like that.

Anyway, eyetoy isn't exactly the best-designed of systems...

I know. thats cuz a good motion tracking controller is IMPOSSIBLE with todays technology. wat another 12 years before proposing one.

Also, while exploitation might no be a problem, sensitivity might be. if there is too little or too much sensitivity, and it will be one or the other with the T Wii Remote, the game will be unplayable.

Either the Wii because it's new and different, or the Xbox 360 because it's out earlier, and it's a solid system with solid games.

The PS3 loses because it's out later than the 360 and it's too expensive.

The only game I currently see that the PS3 has over 360 is Kill Zone.

Funny how mario kart DS is one of the best selling games on the market right now, eh?

Combine it with games like Advance Wars DS, New super mario bros, Animal crossing, resident evil DS(which admittedly I havn't played, but is supposed to be great), and a good looking soon to be released list of games like starfox, top gun, link, etc. I love my DS, it has a great collection of games.

Doesn't really matter. All these companies have plenty of revenue to spend on this war, they'll all be back to fight another day.

Really, though, the 360 can't win. The only thing it really has for the large market that the PS3 doesn't have is Halo, and not too many people buy for one game only. The Wii and the PS3 is almost apples to oranges, with all the changes from conventional videogaming the Wii brings, so they'll both do okay. The PS3's price isn't too big of a factor, upper middle class whelps will still manage to tantrum their way into getting their parents to buy it for them and everybody else will just save up. =/

The only console I can see myself genuinely regretting not getting is the Wii.

The XBox 360 has Halo, and that's about it. Sure KOTOR and Fable are also going to be on it, but they're always on the PC. I'll probably end up getting it anyways because my brother is an XBox Live junkie.

Playstation never has anything that I've ever truly been interested in. I had the PS2, and I definitely enjoyed it, but I doubt I'd mind if all of a sudden it disappeared from my house along with the games (except for the fact that it would be a loss of a large amount of money).

As for the Wii, which I'd bet money on the fact that it isn't its final name, has the franchises that I'm looking for. Super Smash Bros., Zelda, Metroid, all great games. I have faith that the controller will be fun too. After all, I still have fun making great (though ineffective) swooping motions with the stylus, and none of the games I've played are hurt by the stylus or rely on it so much that the game itself is boring. As for the "kiddie" factor, I personally don't feel any need to prove my maturity by stomping the shit out of some old woman, not even after spending an afternoon eating mushrooms and jumping on turtles.

After all, if I ever have the urge to commit acts of genocide against alien races, or something equally destructive, I always have my PC.
