Vancouver. I loved that place.

Cheap CD's (for Brits anyhow), not far from Whistler and quality skiing and beautiful surroundings.

Think Vancouver, but smaller, greener, older, and more temperate weather.

I'd have to say Geneva, followed very closely by Prague.

I hate NYC. Theres litter everywhere. but its not as bad as detroit.

They've done a lot to clean up Detroit in recent years. In 10 or 15 years Detroit will be a rather nice place to live. Of course, if 1.2 million people hadn't fled since the 50's, Detroit would probably be a hell of a town right now, but that's another issue entirely.

New York is great. As are Tokyo and Paris.

This summer, I am spending 4 weeks in Israel. We shall see whether Tel Aviv and/or Jerusalem make the list.

However, judging from the previous posts, I'd have to say New York would win any poll.

The obvious trio of London New York and Paris are great

I think those three are so obvious because it's as good as it gets: Prague is okay I guess, beautiful but the lovely english stag weekends are doing their very best to ruin it. Amsterdam was slightly grim in an odd way, Venice is somewhere you have to visit but I could never imagine living there. Rome is far too hectic, Bern & Brussels just so dull, Barcelona and Madrid fairly good. Tokyo wasn't for me.

I could go on but we'd be here all day.

Paris: It took me the longest of the trio to find the real city but the mazy side streets and sense of character in everything preset makes for a great city.

New York: It's possibly the most European of American set ups with people living closely together, a lack of reliance on the car and a sense of action and excitement. As a tourist destination I found it underwhelming, living there opened my eyes and it's wonderful.

London: My choice, I'm currently living here once again and depsite being New York being four times the size it almost seems bigger: you just couldn't see everything. London is crammed full of unique places - beit the obvious like Camden or Hyde Park or the little gems like the Water Rats Theatre. London really comes to life during the summer and at this time it really bursts to life, you can head to one of countless parks from the take-a-map with you huge to the blink-and-you'll-miss-it patches of grass or you can sit by the river, or leicster square or covent garden with a drink in the evening breeze. Getting around is simple: bus, train, or tram. It can be a squeeze at rush hour but as you can walk anywhere in the central area it's often better to head out on foot. I couldn't do it justice, it's an amazing place to live, the best city in the world.

Nah, Boston is widely regarded as Americas most "European" city, with NYC being the most distinctly American.

I vote for Boston. This should come as no surprise to anyone here.

Paris was nice, Madrid was...eh...London did nothing for me.
DC, I hate. Philly was nice. Honolulu is amazing, Orlando was decent. NYC is a good time.

You know that Pittsburgh's a hundred times nicer, Ruffy.

Hmm... I'd say that New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Istanbul (I always find that people leave this out of most great cities lists --- strange, because it's one of the most prominent in the world, and is very nice), Paris, London, and Shanghai are all quite nice. And of course, there's also Chicago and Osaka...
