Ideal gig

What would your ideal gig be? What bands would play, and what material would they play? I was having this conversation with my girlfriend last night in bed (oh, the fun we get up to ;) ), and we laid the following ground rules for this.

Firstly, the bands have to still be around and producing music - so no Clash, Beatles, etc.
Secondly, you are allowed up to four bands.
Third, the set lengths are as follows - first band 20 minutes; second band 30 minutes; third band 45 minutes; fourth band 75 minutes.
Fourthly, you can specify what they play - not necessarily individual songs or the order, but you can restrict them to a single album if you want to.

Here's mine:
Placebo - 20 minutes, must play Haemoglobin and Centrefolds.
Radiohead - 30 minutes, only songs from Kid A and Amnesiac.
Aphex Twin - 45 minutes, from Selected Ambient Works, Come to Daddy EP, and I Care Because You Do.
65daysofstatic - must finish with Retreat! Retreat!, Radio Protector, and Aren't We All Running? in that order.

Why, Stalin, why? The Bends, OK COmputer and (possibly) Pablo Honey if anything.

So funny I almost had to try to stop myself from laughing...:p

Because I happen to like Kid A and Amnesiac. And Pablo Honey sucks donkey cock. As much as I like The Bends and OK Computer, I prefer the other two. And it's my gig. :D

What about those bands that keep coming back in years to come and doing gigs owing to popular appeal? The Sex Pistols did this.

Erm...no...?

Ok...bands that have split up and reformed with the same line-up, or bands that have split up, reformed with a different line-up, but are making new music. So you can't have the Sex Pistols.

Is that sarcasm? Or are you just trying to get on with CC now after the whole 'Morning Runner' shebang?

Anyway, would this gig be for a commercial purpose or for your, and your friend's own enjoyment?

(Ok, so I messed with the order a bit. shoot me)

First (30 minutes): Iced Earth, playing the entirety of Gettysburg (1863), with full orchestra, cannons and re-enactment soldiers. Can chop the very quiet sections at the beginning and the end slightly to make it fit the time.

Second (45 minutes): Dio. Can play just about anything as long as they skip any boring intros (like the album version of Holy Diver)

Third (75 minutes): Iron Maiden. Should also play some of Bruce's solo work, and nothing from X Factor or Virtual XI

Fourth(20 minutes): Saxon. Must play And The Bands Played On, Ride Like The Wind and 747 (Strangers In The Night)

Morning Runner are crap. I went away and listened to more of their stuff after that...disagreement, and I now truly believe they are the dogshit on the sole of Chris Martin's shoe. Ok, maybe not that bad. But I don't like them. It was sarcasm.

For my enjoyment. I can't imagine Radiohead would ever agree to doing a 30 minute support slot to an obscure band from Sheffield.

Can we scrap the first two acts and extend the headliner? Seriously, 75 minutes for a headline act would be rubbish.

My ideal gig:

BLAZE up first, I'll take 15 minutes from the scrapped first band and give them an hour. They can play a set made up of a material from all 4 of their albums.

Headlining would be Iron Maiden. They'd get 110 minutes (the original 75, plus the remaining 35 from scrapping the first two bands). As for the setlist, it would go something like this:

Aces High
Caught Somewhere in Time
Wrathchild
The Trooper
Brave New World
Where Eagles Dare
Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Transylvania
Flight of Icarus
Rainmaker
Paschendale
Lord of the Flies
Hallowed be thy Name
Fear of the Dark
Iron Maiden
-------------------
Alexander the Great
The Number of the Beast
Run to the Hills

That's just off the top of my head and what I feel like now. Come tomorrow it will have changed.

Ohhhh, this ones a bit hard....

I've got to put two different gigs in, mainly because one shall be LOUD the other shall be quiet...

LOUD GIG :D

The Weakerthans - 20mins; playing Wellingtons Wednesday, Confessions, Letter of Resignation and A new name for everything :D

Smashmouth - 30 mins; Defeat You, Come on Come on, Walkin on the Sun, Allstar, Why can't we be friends, Can't get enough of you baby

Incubus - 45 mins; Privilege, Consequence, The Warmth, Drive, Wish You were here, Anti-Gravity, Make Yourself, Drive

Foo Fighters - 75 mins; The works, but the set must include; Learn to Fly, DOA, Monkey Wrench, My Hero (pref acoustic), Everlong, One by One and a Led Zep cover of their choice, preferably Rock and Roll.

Quiet gig (all songs acoustic apart from tommy guerrero's set; he needs a DJ)

Tommy Guerrero - 20 mins; It gets heavy, Getting it together, Terra Unfirma and Organism (yeah yeah, all from the same album, I don't care it's amazing).

Fun Lovin' Criminals - 30 mins; Scooby Snacks, I can't get with that, I'm not in love, Mini bar blues (feat. B.B. King), Half a block.

Kasino - 45 mins; Turnaround, Rise, Change your mind, Miles away, The state we're in, Thinking about yesterday

Gratedul dead - 75 mins; Anything they want to do. It's all good to me :D Although Franklins tower, Jack Straw, Lazy Lightning, Looks like rain and new minglewood blues are good choices ;)

Very kind of you.

No. 75 minutes is just the main set, doesn't include any encores. The whole thing is 3 hours long, not including the time it takes to set up for each band.

Black Flag

Ah, but with which singer?
Kinda Sensible people

First Group (20 minutes) - Good Clean Fun - Nice fast hardcore, so they could get an entire set done in 20 minutes, plus they're funny and energetic, which would get the crowd pumped up.

Second Group (30 Minutes) - Roger Miret and the Disasters - A bit of Street Punk with seriously slamable music, which would be nice after the harder to dance to GCF.

Third Group (40 Minutes) - Stratovarius - A bit of Heavy neo-classical metal (preferably more along the lines of Black Diamond), which provides a technical challenge not present on the punk before it.

Fourth Group (75 Minutes) - Symphony X - With huge songs, massive, difficult music, and a great deal of energy going for these guys, 75 minutes might not even be long enough. This is the height of Prog Metal (Unless you go for Queensryche or Dream Theater, but both bands have seen better days IMO).

Hm. I could go for either of these:

No.1

Boris - 20mins
Sunn 0((( - 30 mins
Cathedral - 45mins EDIT - Actually, Candlemass might be better.
Electric Wizard - 75mins

No.2

Spiderbait - 20mins
Mudhoney - 30mins
Monster Magnet - 45mins
Queens of the Stone Age - 75mins

No.3

Placebo - 20mins
The Pixies - 30mins
65daysofstatic - 45mins
Sonic Youth - 75mins

But my ultimate; counting dead bands, would probably be:

Rage Against the Machine - 20mins
Dead Kennedys - 30mins
Nirvana - 45mins
Kyuss - 75mins

Or a couple of late 60's acts thrown together.

Can't really be bothered getting into individual albums right now :p

Being brutally honest, that's probably about what they can manage at the moment. As a (borderline obsessive) fan, I'd happily watch them play their entire back catalogue, including their dodgy copyright mixes. But from their albums they've only got maybe 10 really good songs :(

Not sure if you've got both albums, but tracks 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11 from Fall of Math, and tracks 1, 2, 4, 9 from One Time...

But my ultimate; counting dead bands, would probably be:

Rage Against the Machine - 20mins
Dead Kennedys - 30mins
Nirvana - 45mins
Kyuss - 75mins
That would be a pretty cool gig. If Rage were second, DKs were top bill and Kyuss were first.:p
Cannot think of a name

No one ever knows and/or cares about the bands I mention in these threads, but I make posts anyway. Who knows why...

Big Satan
Sex Mob
Cherry Poppin' Daddies (I don't want to hear it)
Dirty Dozen Brass Band
Bodies Without Organs

I only have a downloaded version of Fall of Math, and i've resolved myself to not downloading their second album, considering that I know I like 'em and buy them someday.

I find that it's one of those albums I generally have to listen to as one big song. Although I agree with those track picks if they were going to play singles. Probably track no. 6 as well....which covers a huge percentage of the album anyway :p

lol. I could go either way on any of them, I could stand to hang around while each of them belted out their entire back catalogues without much difficulty...

I put Kyuss at the end because their songs are sometimes very long, and their more mellow stuff'd be a nice finish to the day. :p

sunn0))), shurely?

yeah, whatever.
