More advice needed about Liz...

Yes, I need more advice about my one and only friend, Elizabeth. As you may or may not know, her boyfriend constantly cheats on her, sometimes even with Elizabeth's friends, and she has no knowledge about it. On Thursday and Friday, I noticed she was asking around about something. When she came to me and asked me, she asked me if she knows if her boyfriend is doing anything with other girls. I said I didn't know anything, following the advice of you NSers. I have a feeling, however, that this line of questioning will lead to her eventualy discovery of her boyfriend cheating on her, possibly as soon as Monday or Tuesday because she is asking so much. This will undoubtably lead to a break-up, as Liz is very sensitive towards these kind of things, if the boyfriend doesn't break up with her in the first place. Thing is, Liz has a "puppy love" towards her boyfriend, and the break-up, I feel, will seriously emotionally hurt her, even if it is just teenage puppy love. May I ask for advice on how to lessen the hurt when the break-up comes? And don't just say "Be a shoulder to cry on". I want more advice then just that. Like tell me what to say to her, and stuff like that.

Well, say stuff like "He made a huge mistake" or "You don't need him". Stuff along those lines. Like I and others said before, just be there for her and listen. The, give your opinion.

This is what you do. You tell her the truth "He doesn't deserve you, you're better off without him, and you're a good person." That being said, she won't believe you, and it won't make the problem go away. It's still the right thing to do.

To be honest, its not your place to do anything. Try too hard and she'll think you're just like 'all the others' (i.e men), avoid her and she'll think somethings up (you'll crack and tell her you already knew about him = bad for you.

Act like her friend, and simply be her friend. She'll appreciate it in the long run.

There is nothing you can, or should, do to 'lessen' this pain. Pain is a part of life- to deny it is the same as trying to deny joy or anger.

She's most likely turn to you and being there will help her alot. reinstall confidence in her. She'll eventually get over that jackass and move on. These things don't last. Just weather the storm and listen. I know you want to be able to do more, but I fear there isn't that much else.

Dude, man up, drop the testes, and stop trying to be cool with "only one friend". Its not healthy. Just go out, be normal, make friends...and stop acting like a dooch and maybe this girl will come aroudn to see your a normal guy, not some immature cutter who complains about the world.

Whatever you do, don't say anything that passes judgement on the guy. If they get back together (an unfortunate but all too possible option) she'll be pissed at you for having ever said such a thing about him. I think the best you can do is be there for her. And tell her that you're there for her and to call you if she needs to talk about it (but only if you're willing to do that). Sometimes, there's really only so much you can do. She has to get over it on her own. You can't do that for her.

Although I have to wonder about the advice given. Certainly you shouldn't have volunteered the information, but if she asked you, you should have told her the truth. Ah well, too late now! Don't retract what you said before.

Stupid boy! NEVER EVER give advice unless asked for it. After the breakup (if there is one), everybody who knows will try to give her unwanted advice when all she needs is someone to listen. So be there, listen, and sympathize with her. Only if she asks you for advice, THEN tell her what you think according to your own best judgement.

If she does ask for your advice, I would make sure to add that you highly advise against getting back together with him, making sure to note that you'll be there for her either way.

And Francis, there is no up without a down, no concept of height without a concept of depth, and thus, no concept of joy without a concept of pain. If we had no pain, then joy would be a constant, and therefore a middle, not a high.

Edit: Don't worry about bitching about you not having friends. The only friends worth having are the ones that come to you without you having to do any work. If its nobody, thats just how it is, its better to have no friends than bad friends.

If everybody thought like that, then nobody would be friends with anybody else. SOMEBODY will always have to take the initiative to talk to the other person/people. Just let these thing happen naturally. Don't force your company on other people but don't hold that "I can't make friends" attitude either, because the attitude will turn potential friends away.

Yes. I'm female, so I'd have to be a goddess. You haven't been reading my posts closely enough to catch that did you? :p When I said something about females before, I used "us" as the pronoun, not "them." Plus, I think I said something about being a female on another of Lada's threads...

And, to be honest, I don't think you're a loser for doing what you're doing. Not enough people help each other out in this world, and it's a respectable thing to do.

Now, Atlantian would kick em in the back, tell em to quit cryin, and then go back to his computer to meddle in the affairs of others.

Also, the difference between real friends and ideal friends is...? My point is that, at least around here, real friends, who will be there good and bad, pretty much don't exist anymore.

You should watch the BBC version (one of two miniseries). It's the most accurate. Well done. Although about 6hrs long.... Then the A&C version (which isn't too bad either, fairly accurate). I don't think there's anything wrong with defending a religion you don't believe in. I don't believe in any of them, except Buddhism a little, but i still defend them if i feel they are being unduly and unfairly criticised. That's like saying you shouldn't defend gay people if you aren't gay, or you shouldn't defend people of other races if you aren't a part of them. I do agree that you shouldn't claim to be a member of a religion or something if you don't believe in it, but i don't think he did that.

Not such a fan of Shakespeare. Then again, I'm a writer, so it's a lot harder to impress me. And it's possible that I'm jealous... (tho I don't THINK so....) Of course, most English classes haven't had me read it properly. When I read it properly (that is to say, with a wink) I love it... hm.... Okay, I like Shakespeare. As long as I'm not reading a complete tragedy (Macbeth, Hamlet). I love Much Ado About Nothing! I even memorized that one thing... "Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more, men were deceivers ever, one foot on sea and one on shore, to one thing constant never, so sigh not so, but let them go, and be you blithe and bonny, converting all your sounds of woe into 'Hey nonny nonny!' Sing no more ditties, sing no more of dumps so dull and heavy, the fraud of men was ever so since summer first was leafy, so sigh not so, but let them go, and be you blithe and bonny, converting all your sounds of woe into 'Hey nonny nonny!'"

Bit of a Juliet myself. Especially that one monologue where she's pissed off at night not coming...

Yep!!!

Interesting, I've dabbled in writing before. I think I'm pretty good at it. Though, I don't have the attention span to finish anything I start. For class one time we had to give a speech and I managed to memorize the entire St.Crispin's Day Speech from Henry V. Of course, I've long since forgotten it "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers" that's my favorite line.

Still, Hamlet the play was very beautifully written. I also liked the plot better than that of Macbeth. Macbeth followed too closely with the classical plotline of Greek tragedies, which makes me bored of it. Macbeth does have "Life is but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more. It is a tale, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing", which is one of the best quotes of ALL TIME.

Most people love the "a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more" the most, but my favorite parts are "It is a tale, told by an idiot" and "signifying nothing" because that's so much fun!
