So, who grooves to the music?

I just saw this video, and it made me wonder, who here can cut a rug? I know I can't as I've got 2 left feet (picture an enibriated bull in a china shop). Anything in the video you recognize, and dance(d) to?

Works for me in both IE and Firefox. I almost never use IE (and only opened it for the first time in IE when you commented), so it shouldn't be cached for me in IE.

I got complemented a month or so ago on my dancing at this med school party thing. "You can really dance! Wow, you got the party started! I'm not BSing you, you can really move."

That pissed me off, because it's easier to dance when you think you suck at it. Then you just don't care. But when someone tells you you're sort of good at it, you become self-concious all over again.

Still, dancing is loads of fun.

That's hilarious! But what's that song after about 4 mins? I hear it quite often, and it's driving me crazy!

My husband tried to tell me that a couple of times, dancing at latin clubs, so I started dancing with other men who said I was doing fine:p . The hubby doesn't dance enough for my tastes anyway, and he can only do one set of steps, so *sticks out tongue* to him!

The one where he jumps up and down? Not the pony one, but the one right after that? That's Jump Around by Cypress Hill.

There's no "doing it right" in dancing! Silly Sinu-husband. There's only looking good while you're doing it. Unless it's ballroom, which precludes the latter, and thus only has the former.

But you know what I hate? I hate those people who dance like they're having sex. All the time. That's all they do. Pretend to have sex on the dance floor. No matter the song, no matter the theme, no matter the straightness of the club.

I remember at my uncle's wedding, I got dragged out to the dance floor (against my will) to dance the Macarena (when it was in style). I understood the moves, but I intentionally did it wrong. My mom was laughing so hard she almost fell down, because she knew I was screwing up intentionally. One of the (drunk) women that was a friend to my uncle kept telling me, "You're doing it all wrong". In her unsober state, she didn't realize I already knew that.

I know, he just couldn't keep a rhythm and blamed it on me. I called him on it, and he admitted he just didn't like dancing. Life moved on, and I still look damn good dancing:)

Though in Cuba, I saw people dancing the perreo (doggy style dancing...frottage at its best), and it was mesmerising...they did it with style...and then moved on to complicated salsas to prove they could actually move more than their pelvises!

Latin people don't count, as their dancing is supposed to include a certain amount of molestation and/or sexual assault.

My mistake. You mentioned "the pony one", and one of the lines in Billy Idol's song is, "Ride the pony", so I assumed that was it. The song list is here: http://www.evolutionofdance.com/songs.html

It looks like the song you were really after was "Apache" by The Sugarhill Gang. Can I have another cookie? :D

I cannot dance, which is devestating, considering my love for Musical Theatre. Supposedly, the theatre school I'm planning on attending is really good at teaching people to dance. Unfortunately, there is a problem: how can I get in if I can't dance, and don't have any dance experience? My teacher told me to take a basic dance class before next spring's auditions, just so I could put it on my application, but I'm too embarassed to sign up for one.
On the subject of that video, man can that guy dance! His robot (as uncool as that move is) was great.

i liked that. that was cool. apparently i can dance but i can't dance with people, i seem to dance too fast and leave people behind and they get bored trying to keep up with me. there's only one person who can keep up with me and she's mental. in fact i can't keep up with her, except when dancing to drum&bass. meh.

No need to be embarrassed. Just go to a beginners course class. Everyone is likely to be as self-conscious as you, and all too busy worrying if they look silly in front of everyone, to ever notice if you or anyone other than themselves looks silly.

And even still you need not see these people ever again after the course.

As for the OP question, the video is still slowly streaming in (darn my dial-up is sloooooow), I've only seen up to the YMCA bit...cool! And yes I can dance.
