Jesse MacBeth--A Different Kind of Hoax

Someone--I forget who it was--spent a lot of time a couple of days ago starting threads about this guy Jesse MacBeth, a man who claimed to be an Iraq War Veteran and a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. He had more than holes in his story--he had Uwe Boll size plot chasms in his story, all of which right-wing bloggers dutifully noted and claimed were evidence of the inherent dishonesty of the left.

Only one problem with the story. IVAW's never heard of the guy. (http://www.ivaw.net/)

Iraq Veterans Against the War recently learned of a video interview with Jesse MacBeth that directs viewers to IVAW’s website and phone number. IVAW was not made aware of the creation of this video program and our input on it was never sought by its producers. Jesse MacBeth is not a spokesperson for IVAW and any claims made by MacBeth about his service have not been verified. We are currently investigating these claims and will have a full statement pending its resolution.

Something smells a lot like setup to me. I don't know if this was just a guy looking to make a name for himself and he suckered in a lot of people or if this was a setup by some ratfucking right-wingers a la Nixon 1972, but it smells.

I agree. I only posted this when I saw it because something smelled fishy about the situation from the start. Most advocacy groups, especially military ones, are sufficiently grounded in their field to smell a bullshit artist in their midst. I found it hard to believe that IVAW let this slip, but I had nothing to go on other than gut.

I guess I still don't have much more than that to go one right now either, other than that the story just doesn't make any sense except as a scam. Like I said, I don't know who's doing the scamming, but something's fishy about how this came to be.

Most probably this moron spouted alot of crap, got so into it hyperbole came out and it became painfully aparent he was full of it.
Somewhere amongst his diarrhea, he made the claim to be spokesman for the IVAW and that's the one thing that the right-wing bloggers have pounced on. As is their propensity to do.

Other possible answer is that this claim was made up by a right-wing blogger and as is wont to do, been latched onto and circulated everywhere before any checks were made as to it's validity.
I'm pretty sure this sort of thing has happened before...

imo, the former seems slightly more likely than the latter scenario. MacBeth was making up all kinds of crap which got more and more unreal.
