So I have been thinking lately, The president of Iran is a follower of the Mahdi messiah beleif in Islam, which he believes that after a series of apocalyptic events(like the US and Israel attacking a nuclear Iran), the Mahdi will come with Jesus, and they will convert Christians and others to Islam and Islam will be the only religion. Well, i was wondering could this Madhi be the same as the Jewish end time false messiah, which would make it the antichrist?

Those two beliefs carry quite alot of logic and philosophy.
unfortunetly for some, it's logic to abandon the notions of salvation after combat, or the boogey man.

To the Christians he was the Messiah, but to the Jews wasn't he not the Messiah?

Hence the 'false Messiah' thing?

Or am I all out of wack on this one....?

Edit: Fuck it, I'm going to bed.

You should read my signature. Sums it up perfectly-Jesus Christ is the ONLY saviour of this world, and he isn't a false messiah OR a false prophet. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE PROPHECIES by the OT prophets was fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

ETA: My signature isn't showing up for some reason. What's up mate?

It was prophesied that his only people would put him to death-the jews. They were angry because of the roman ocupation and he was called the king of the jews-they expected a king who would deliver them from roman occupation, not eternal damnation.

To the jews he was a false messiah. Many beleived him and lived, however many didnot and were the same one who turned on him.

Really?

What about the prophecy that he would be the heir of David?

Why didn't he convert everyone to Judaism?

Why isn't everyone vegetarian?

Why are there still wars?

Why didn't he rebuild the temple (and more to the point why was the temple destroyed only fourty years after his death?

Why do the Gospels claim he was born to a virgin? The Jewish messiah is to be born in the normal way.

Since Jesus *isn't* the Jewish messiah, that claim would be quite correct. Doesn't mean he could not have been the son of God though.

The Jews killed him? Now, I'm no scholar, but if I remember correctly he was senteced and executed by the Romans....

I'm not a theologian, but I'd say 'no'. Not only is it essentially the same god (the problem just being that neither Jews nor Christians worship that god properly, according to Islam), but the Shi'ite version of the Mahdi belief is actually based on a real-life holy man. So based on those two things, it's unlikely that the Mahdi is antichrist, for he doesn't fulfill the requirements.

As for antichrist...well, sounds cool, but is probably a silly thing to believe in. And by the way, the Muslims have their own antichrist, Dajjal, who comes along with the Mahdi. And he's actually quite cool, like a super-fajarah out of a comic. :D

Mahdi = Man who unites the Muslims

Messiah = Divine Figure who is an Avatar of God (Jesus).

Awara-ad-dajjal, or however its Romanized- Equivilant of the Anti-Christ.

Mahdi is a political figure. That'd be a quick summarization of Muslim Belief.

Muslems do most empatically *not* consider Jesus divine or the son of Allah - he is "merely" one of His favourites. He is considered the Messiah by them though.

No. He was sentanced by the Sanhedrin after Pilate washed his hands of the matter to prevent a riot. Although the actual execution was carried out by Roman soldiers.

My god, GCSE RE. What a fucking waste of time...

Er...no. The Sanhedrin condemned him for blasphemy, but didn't sentence him. He was turned over to Pontius Pilate for sedition (as he claimed to be the king of the Jews), and Pilate sentenced him to death by crucifiction.

According to Shias, the Mahdi is already in the world. He is in occultation. I would advise not to carry such notions that a revered Imam be called an anti-Christ.

No, the Antichrist will come from the European region and he will be liked by all different peoples. He is the "Antichrist of Rome" as called by the bible, this has led most biblical researches to believe he will come from the old Empire of Rome, or Europe.

Actually, Pilate just folowed the will of the people. So, really, the masses sentenced Jesus.

A warning against democracy, no? :)

He is the false messiah

The Messiah must be of the tribe of Judah. Since (well at least according to the propoganda written as the New Testament) he had no biological father, he belonged to no tribe.

The temple must be rebuilt after he arrives (it was actually destroyed)

World peace will follow his coming (has that every happenedin the last 2006 years?)

His father must decend from Solomon (see above)

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner. Not that any of the followers of the false messiah will believe it.
