Wow, 4 posts.. that's gotta be a record.

I always thought that if there was a huge earthquake on the San Andreas faultline in California, that everything east would fall into the Atlantic.

Guam? Or Puerto Rico? Would one go first and no more? Or a cascading effect? Gradually? Or a simultaneous shattering? I guess that we'll find out eventually? The US$ has lost 30% in 5 years, with at least 20% more to go in the next five...how do you spell 'unsustainable'?

American Samoa. After 100 years of looking for ways to be incorporated as a state, they get their wish. Then they realize it isn't all that it's supposed to be and secede 34 days later.

The day that happens, I will get down on my knees and say, "Thank God!"

Then I would urge the government to nuke California. :)

It doesn't make sense for any of them to go, but I'd say California. This is only because they might just physically break off one day.

Yeah, this is true. But in a few million years when the continents become a pangea again (SP? Means "One continent" if I remember my earth history correctly), California AND Hawaii will become a part of North America again. Asia will be connected to N.A., squishing Hawaii inbetween (like connecticut all those 100 million years ago).

Hey, thats how the first Normans (SP? Hell, is it even right?) came over to America. They traveled by some weird strait wich used to connect alaska to Asia. Oh well....

At least L.A. will get a front view of Hong Kong.

I think it would be Texas because, and correct me if I'm wrong, Texas is the only State that actually has it written in it's constitution that it has the right to secede from the union. No other state, as far as I know, has that option.

Uh... they tried to secede once.Didn't work. Or maybe you all forgot about that big war in the 1800s?

Yes, they did and the big war (aka the American Civil War 1861-1865) was fought because it was considered, among other things - illegal. The only state that has the right, by it's own constitution, to secede is Texas.
Bolol
24-05-2006, 02:48
I think we would sooner see a whole section of the country (a' la 1861) secede before a single state.
23Eris
24-05-2006, 04:47
and texas was forced back into the union in 1865.

I doubt the US would let them leave now either.

Massachusetts will secede first on homosexual civil/human rights grounds.

Over the next few years the country will divide in a split that will mirror the 1960's civil rights campaigns.
New York, California and other liberal states will join Mass. in passing legislation supporting the rights of homosexuals to marry, adopt, join the Navy etc...
Meanwhile Indiana, Alabama, the Dakotas and other conservative states will pass legislation and amendments to state constitutions banning gay marriage and limiting abortion.
Eventually the whole mess will make it to the Supreme Court. There'll be a 5 vs 4 decision forcing Massachusetts to overturn it's gay rights legislation.
Massachusetts will leave the Union in protest to be joined soon after by New York, California, Illinois and a few others who eventually agree to form a new union called... the pink states of america..? um the gay civil union..? I'm not sure.

All the backward states (like IN) soon realise that the liberal states are the ones who were actually net payers into the federal treasury and start crying...

The bleeding heart liberals in the pink states take pity on refugee rednecks from IN and let them live in tents in Central Park if they promise not to talk about Jesus all the time /yawn

OK?

thats a joke... right?

...

anyway, I don't live in the U.S. but I think if anything... Alaska and Hawaii will become indepedent nations for geopolitical reasons, mostly geographically. California's too awesome possum to be part of the States so they'll form their own country, as written on the flag "California Republic". New York City will stay kapoot for now, since NYC is the epitome of Americaness for the most part. Texas is already a country on its own right now, so they're not far from becoming their own country. states in the south, namely New Mexico and Florida have some reason to separate, again for geopolitical reasons.

as a resident of Hawaii... Hawaii won't last by itself. Too isolated. the Native factions would tear what little of society will be left. Hawaii has nothing to offer any nation as trade. thanks to the Dems long reign in Hawaii, we have a dead agricultural business, little to no processing capability for food, and no skills to export except native trinklets. Tourism would be our only source of income, Forcing Hawaii to kiss @$$ to any and all nations (a sticking point for some of the Native Hawaiian Factions here). We wouldn't be able to defend ourselves from any aggressors.

After which we all can have jolly good fun reconstructing it.
