okay, this has been done millions of times on here, but this time its my turn to get 'jacked.

whaddya recommend? i keep getting urlwindowseek things and autodialing my IE (i run firefox) to ads but i'm afraid theyre gonna find something important.

Windows (bullshit) Defender found something AdAware didnt and deleted it: not five seconds later it popped up again.

i know people will say pandascan; how can i use it thru firefox?

well, thanks ahead of time, i was spyware-free for awhile and i need this fixed.

i should buy something to fix it, not McAfee, or Norton, but i dont know what.

I use Spybot - Search & Destroy. http://www.safer-networking.org/

A temporary solution is of course to just wipe your hard disk and re-install.

Stop using Internet Explorer.

Yes, use anti-spyware and anti-virus programs (I use McAfee).

But use some other browser. Firefox is pretty good (although not 100%).

i dont use IE, its hacking IE and using it to dial.

i think i can get McAfee free from comcast.

I'm gonna tell you what I tell everyone else in computer related advice threads. Set fire to your computer and sacrifice it to C'thulu. Then get a new one.

A dialer is a virus, not adware. Use something a wee bit more powerful in safemode.

use multiple antispywares as you can't trust one vendor anymore.

The corporate lawyers are now defining spyware. If a EULA says I will install this as an agreement to use the software, it's no longer spyware and it wont' be removed.

I asked this of symantec, mcafee, trend, and kaspersky at the recent RSA conference.

A thing to look for is if a company has a lawsuit "warchest" If they are willing to fight, then you can probably think they are a safe bet.

Mcafee's antispyware is crap. We run mcafee in the company and decided against using the antispyware addon simply because of the amount of stuff it misses.

Spybot is good for freeware. Vendor wise, I would say counterspy and spysweeper.
