What should I do? She pees like 25 times every hour while crying and throws up now and then... but inbetween she's happy and cuddly... She's just 11 weeks old and we got her the other day... My girlfriend is taking her to the vet, but we haven't had time to insure her yet... argh... what could it be? Any ideas? Do you think it will be expencive to treat? :(

Has she had her vaccinations? Her worming? Was she with her mum when you got her?

If you have had her vaccinated and wormed (and if you have not, WHY NOT? Go to the Vets now.) then I will hazard a guess and say that she is missing her mother. If this is the case, the vomiting and urinating is from fear, she's in a new place away from her home. When you are away from her, put a hot water bottle in her bed along with a clock that ticks. The hot water bottle reminds her of her mother's body warmth, the clock reminds her of her mother's heartbeat, making her think her mother's there for company, helping her sleep. Lay newspaper down where you want her to poo and wee, gradually moving it closer and closer to the front or back door which leads to outside over a period of weeks. The vomiting could also be from hunger, make sure you're feeding her enough.

Insure her. Don't delay.

Perhaps you should have thought about the financial implications of keeping a dog and keeping it well before you got one, hmm?

You have a dog now, she's your responsibility. Yeah, if she's ill, it could make you burn a hole in your pocket, but you really should have thought about that before you got her, and for your puppy's sake, I hope you did.

We just got her the other day and since it has been a weekend the insurance office has been closed for a few days, otherwise she would already be insured. We'll get by nevertheless, just have to cut down on the pizza this month:) She was vaccinated and wormed when we got her and we bought her from a serious breeder so there's no foul-play, she's due for a vaccination follow-up next week.

Anyways, she's been to the vet. and it seems she's out of harms way, a very early stage of bladder infection, so she'll be on antibiotics for a week and won't be allowed to run in wet grass and such, she'll be a very sad puppy the coming week hehe... but I just bought some good bones and toys for her:)

Thanks for the tips everyone, I might just have overreacted a lil... but she's my baby after all hehe...

Good to hear you got diagnosis, and her treatment has begun.

Good luck with the puppy.

Tetict, you should be a vet.

Oh no! I only have links and information about dachshunds, but this bulletin board is full of dog-owners, trainers, and vets. You can ask them and I'm sure they wouldn't care what breed your little one is. A sick puppy is a sick puppy.

Post back here when you've found out, okay? I'll be thinking about you guys.

EDIT: I panicked and didn't read the rest of the thread. I'm glad she's okay. Oy vey!

Bladder infections are rather unpleasant for any of God's creatures.
Not bad

No, but insurance covers almost anything the vet will have to do to/for the pet, so that you don't pay $1500 for surgery. Otherwise, you may have to take out a second mortgage or sell your firstborn child to pay for it.

And if anyone so much as hints that buying a new dog, in this case, would be better, they've obviously never owned a loving, loyal pet like a well-raised dog or cat. :p

Oh, yea I guess. I've only heard of people insuring dogs which are really expensive or uncommon/rare breeds. Fair enough.

Yeah, but a lot of people are insuring even common breeds these days, when they realize that a pet is irreplaceable. Besides, I pay about $360 a year for my cat ($30 a month), and I have $2500 coverage on almost all illnesses and accidents, plus if she gets lost, I can get something like up to $500 for posters and a reward. There are lots of reasons to insure your pet, and few reasons not to. :D
