so i know paranoia means that you think everyone is out to get you. but, is it paranoia when you think that your best friends are only putting up with you rather than like you? this is something that has plagued me for as long as i have had friends and i've never been able to shake it. i was feeling so good (relatively) earlier and now i feel rubbish. this is annoying. anyone else paranoid about this or other things?

i've only told my various friends occaisionally about my trust problem and every time they've said 'nooooo... we love you, we wouldn't be friends with you if we didn't' or other such stuff. but occaisionally things that they do or ways they behave make me go on imaginative tangents that end up with me believing that they are only humouring me. my whole time at primary school was characterised by friends abandoning me because i wasn't cool and didn't have as much money as them, or so i've told myself, and it's happened a couple of times since primary school for other reasons, but i dunno, i really have a problem with believing that my friends actually like me. i'm quite aware people find me entertaining but that's a whole different thing from actually liking someone.

How can i respond to that without offending her?

Paranoia is a schizophrenic condition in which an individual has delusions of persecution. In the end, however, remember: Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

Awww, you just haven't come across the right type of people yet. Volunteering is generally a good way to come across people who are less superficial. But then I recommend volunteering to everyone I meet. I think it's a great experience.

i'm not fishing for compliments. okay sometimes i do, but i do think this is a bit more serious than that. it's not like saying 'does my bum look big in this?'. i can get seriously depressed when i start thinking like this and sometimes i won't speak to my friends for weeks in case they actually turn round and say they don't want to see me anymore.

okay, maybe that came across more exagerrated than i intended. i do speak to my friends during those times but i don't initiate contact, when i do speak to them, however, i am as charming and friendly and funny as they would expect me to be. and i'm not depressed all the time, just occaisionally i feel pretty down, but i don't like letting people (or at least my friends) know for fear that they will not want to deal with me being depressed.

I know people like this. I just get the impression they don't like me, not that they're worried about making me not like them. Maybe you shouldn't worry about it so much eh.
