Hello general. Nominate your favourite song (or songs) to play while getting stoned, or one which makes you really feel like doing so.
For me it's:
The end, by the Doors
The tune from American Beauty- the one shampoo companies are ripping off in their ads.
Sweet Leaf by Black Sabbath
Infinite Revolution

sigur ros or the coral make good stoner music. as for a particular song, i don't pay enough attention when i'm stoned to really notice what particualr song is playing.

Pink Floyd is nice. Makes me feel like I'm floating in the ocean, moving with the waves. But then those fucking bells start ringing and I freak out. So that's out..
I'll look through Itunes and see if theres anything..

I don't get stoned and have absolutely no desire to, but I do enjoy stoner metal, so if any of you can suggest good stoner metal bands/songs, I'd much appreciate it.

Heh, OK, some of this isn't strictly "stoner metal", but let's not be anal about it, because there is a lot of overlap between sludge and doom stuff. And a lot of it is closer to traditional rock than metal.
(I know that you're familiar with a few of these, but others might not be.)
Kyuss
Queens of the Stone Age
Clutch
AstroQueen
Fu Manchu
Fireball Ministry
Nebula
Zebulon
Down
Electric Wizard
Cathedral
Boris
Melvins
Earth
Sleep
Orange Goblin
Monster Magnet
Corrosion of Conformity
The Atomic Bitchwax
Crowbar
Electric Earth
Isis
Eyehategod
A couple of Black Sabbath songs qualify too, like Sweet Leaf, which the OP mentioned.

Yeah...but I actually prefer Lateralus while smoking...dunno why exactly.

I'd rather take hits from the bong...far less effort involved. ;)

Everything I Do From Now On, Goin' be Funky by the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Really, just about anything by the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
Depending on my mood, Lonely Woman, either the original Ornette Coleman or Kronos Quartet. Actually, a lot of Kronos Quartet recordings are pretty cool-Phillip Glass' quartets, Dark Angels, Lacrymosa...
I like the Cherry Poppin' Daddies when I'm baked.
Where's Sly Medeski, Martin, and Wood
Crazy Beat/Don't Be Cruel Sex Mob (You can hear a sample here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00003OP0Q/102-8702800-1152919?v=glance&n=5174)...it's track 8, to get an idea of the kind of stuff I listen to.)
Love Supreme John Cotrane. Or Impressions. Mid to late Coltrane.
Haitian Fight Song or Better Get it in Yer Soul, or Goodbye Pork Pie Hat Charles Mingus. In the right mood-The Clown.
The album Merry Frolics of Satan by Phillip Johnston.
Or anything by Big Satan.
or...
You know what? Honestly music in itself, by its very nature is stoney...
OK, the quality is shit, because they're meant as preview tracks mostly, but i snatched these from the jukebox at that stonerrock.com site and i'd recommend 'em. You can buy these albums on there too, most of the bands are unsigned or minor label. There, that gives it some sense of credibility even though i'm posting MP3s. Hehe.
Zebulon - Overflown (http://www.stonerrock.com/jukebox/Zebulon-Overflown.mp3)
AstroQueen - Serve the Sun (http://www.stonerrock.com/jukebox/Astroqueen-Serve_the_Sun.mp3)
Kyuss - One Inch Man (http://www.stonerrock.com/jukebox/Kyuss-One_Inch_Man.mp3) (Kyuss have better songs, but the selection on there is limited.)
Melvins w/ Jello Biafra - Caped Crusader (http://www.stonerrock.com/jukebox/Jello_Biafra_and%20_Melvins-Caped_Crusader.mp3)

The roof, the roof, the roof is... ...what was I saying man?
Actually the best stoner song is to sing The Roof is on Fire while high with an exagagerated upper-class British accent. Everyone will find it hilarious and wet themselves laughing. (Of course, if your friends generally wet themselves while high this might not be the best way to gauge its entertainment value.)
Not that I've ever touched that filthy canabis stuff myself.
(And notice that I quoted myself, putting this entire thread at risk of infinite regression. Just watch old episodes of Doctor Who while stoned if you don't believe me.)

I haven't been stoned yet.
But I hear you don't get so much effect your first time...
I think I'll have to try out that Pink Floyd thing, and Placebo, just to see if Kanabia was right :p

I disagree. Their earlier stuff sounds better stoned.
I disagree. Their earlier stuff sounds better stoned.
Well, I spent many a night chilling out with friends to their first album (occasionally Without You I'm Nothing), and it was always cool, but there are bands that give a "whoa" effect a lot better than they do. Nothing against Placebo, of course, I mean, they're still awesome.

I find Tejano Polka to be oddly amusing and soothing while baked.
"The Joker" by Steve Miller Band. I'm sure it's already been nominated but I can't be bothered to see. The best part is it's still a good song when you're not stoned.
Sublime- Smoke two joints

I find locale is important when selecting tunes. When I'm at my mates converted stable, its gotta be old school rock: Pearl Jam - Yellow Ledbetter, Bruce Springsteen - Long time comin'. My other mates house it's all about the Grunge and Stoner Metal: Alice in Chains - Rain When I Die or Down - Stone The Crows.
Gonna see Down 29th of this month! Buying half an oz of good grade dope in preparation!

Not traditional, but maybe Come With Us by the Chemical Brothers?
How can people like metal when they're caned? *shudders* Makes no sense to me.
On a side note, does anybody know whether or not putting weed on top of your hookah baccy and then smoking it as one would normally smoke a hookah works?

Yes. Oh very much yes.
Although it's the stoner equivalent of an afterburner - you dump in the draw, toke it hard and, well... depending on the initial injection (quantity and quality) you're gonna get one hell of a slam.
Hookahs rock.

Whilst not a stoner (nor interested in becoming one) Hotel California is superb in this role.
Although I'd agree with the OP. The End is a great song, practically hallucinogenic in itself. Espescially when it's really, really hot and humid out.
Not all metal is aggressive, though :p
You can say its not all you like, still have yet to hear a metal song that could mellow me like a reggae track

hookah thing works, but its better to put another thin layer of hookah tobacco between the weed and the coal to stop it all burning really fast.

what he said.
i used to find it best to dig out a little dip in the baccy (push your thumb down hard in it), fill with green so its heaped (like a heaped teaspoon) and then cover. that way you get a nice little ball of weed and it tokes real nice :)
and ps: some metal when you're baked is good. like machine head - melodic stuff... not, say, bolt thrower or cannibal corpse (*shudders @ the latter*)
though everyone knows you should be listening to hendrix non-stop when you're high ;)

Aphex Twin's more ambient stuff; Boards of Canada; Explosions in the Sky; Meanwhile, Back In Communist Russia...; Red Sparowes; Future Sound of London; Godspeed You! Black Emperor; Secret Machines; Marseille Figs (youll be pissing yourself, I swear); Oceansize; VAST; Radiohead (Kid A or Amnesiac for preference); and, of course, Pink Floyd.
