Or the other way around?
Or are video games just a state of mind?
Can ones 'video gameness' be determined by ones state of mind? Or does your state of mind determine your 'video gameness'?
If you use a CD/DVD with Grand Theft Auto: San Adreas on it to kill somebody, does that directly link GTA:SA to a murder?

Video games have nothing to do with the development of a criminal mind.
Thousands of years before video games were invented people were killing, raping, going to war etc.
Aggressive feelings cause violence. Video games sometimes allow players to let out their aggressive feelings without doing any harm.
I mean, who seriously got the idea that people who sit around playing video games in their free time are the ones responsible for violence? Surely its the people who spend their free time outside in identity-concealing clothing harrassing strangers who are the violent ones?

I agree video games have nothing to do in most cases with crime.Although in very rare cases video games can cause some crazy people to "reinact" there video game "experinces".For example,In the 80's when dungeons and dragons was very popular 2 teens killed there parents and friends when acting out what they had done in the game.I know this is not a video game but it follows along the same lines as it.

i like to play. i like to play fifa. i am a potential football hooligan. i think maybe i would be at a football game at the world cup and would perhaps throw a banana in the air and it might hit someone in the eye blinding them and then they would drop the flare they were holding onto the person in front of them who would turn around and beat the one eyed supporter to death. sport is violence sports fans are homicidal maniacs, music is sport sport is a religion religions cause violence. human participants in anything cause violence, would the lion that ate the antelope just yesterday be a supporter of arsenal or barcelona?

I love the fact that people have answered the question they think they read, not the the one that was actually there!
Violent video games are caused by violence being socially acceptable in the first place.
So I suppose yeah; violence does cause video games.

Of COURSE violence causes video games! If there wasn't a second world war, how could we have all these world war 2 era shooters that cause teens to break out into violence?!? We should therefore ban all violence, so we can eliminate video games, and thus reduce the amount of violence in the world!

Of course it does.
How many War games are there? There is an appetite for a fictional release of violence. I'd rather someone takes it out of pixelated characters in a video game then go gun tottin' down main street.

I believe that some games are inspired by violence in the past (like wars), but I don't believe that video games themselves cause violent behavior.

What's this? Surely you know that video games are the cause of all societys problems. It's a well known fact so stop trying to deny it!

Holy shit! I bet you always do your homework!
As far as videogames go, i wonder where entertainment ends and programming begins.

I do not believe there is any connection between violins and video games. Except maybe in the soundtrack.

While I agree that videogames are unrelated to violent crime, the fact that violent crimes happened before games existed doesnt prove this. Its like saying smoking is perfectly safe because non smokers die too.
I am concerned though, that in a few years time on the PS4 or Xbox1080, when the new grand theft auto is almost photorealisti, that the line will begin to blur for some stupid people who are prone to mental illness. when the people we kill without a second thought in the game look exactly like people we see on the street in real life, will we become desensitised to the point where we dont even register real life violence? I hope im talking shit and am utterly wrong, if only because if I ever agreed with Jack Thompson I couldnt live with myself.
But have you ever played Football manager (or champman back in the day) for a long time, and then seen a real match, and just for a second wondered why all the wrong players were there? its only for a moment, and when you realize its terribly embarrasing, but it happens. Why? because that game seems real. time will tell.
