How often do you fantasize?

Saipea
21-05-2006, 21:23
Now, before you jump, remember that "fantasizing" does not necessitate a sexual context. You could fantasize about being MVP on a sports team, finding that special someone, having telekinetic powers, being supreme dictator of the world, etc.

Thence, the questions:
How often do you fantasize?
What do you think is a "healthy" amount of time to be fantasizing?
Is it "healthy" to fantasize?
What do you fantasize about? Most often?
Why do you fantasize?

How often do you fantasize?
Lots, but it does depend on what I'm doing, i've found it dangerous to fantasize whilst driving, for instance.

What do you think is a "healthy" amount of time to be fantasizing?
Depends on the person, their age and their needs. Me, burst of a few minutes at a time, e.g. when driving home, walking on my own etc. gives me some time.

Is it "healthy" to fantasize?
Darn right it is, otherwise we'd go bonkers. It kind of lets off steam. Sometimes its not that good, though, I often think about what it'd be like if my kids were kidnapped or something, and that ends up with me being in a bit of a Rambo rage (in my head, not in the real world), or just really sad which is sometimes difficult to stop suddenly. You should be able to separate reality from fantasy, most definetely.

What do you fantasize about? Most often?
Wimmin (OK, normally nekkid), having a forcefield, dancing, all sorts of stuff. living in the middle ages when the world was less environmentally f.u.b.a.r'd.

Why do you fantasize?
Why not? My brain just does it, it lets you do things you can't do in real life.

So Saipea, what are your answers to this question???????

How often do you fantasize?
Nearly my entire my life

What do you think is a "healthy" amount of time to be fantasizing?
Less than I do, but deffinately more than nothing.

Is it "healthy" to fantasize?
To a point, You must try to keep fantasy from Reality, but yes or else I would have commited suicide in 5th grade.

What do you fantasize about? Most often?
Sex, and then being Ruler of the World, or at least the half with nukes

Why do you fantasize?
Why not, anyway its how I keep sane at school.

1. I don't fantasize during the daytime, however, my brain seems to have the tendency of fantasizing as I'm about to fall asleep.

2. Depends on the person, or moreso the situation of the person.

3. I think like anything else as long as it doesn't become dysfunctional it is fine. I.E. You fantasize about being with somebody and create a false connection with that person is an unhealthy level.

Is it "healthy" to fantasize?
What do you fantasize about? Most often?
Why do you fantasize?
i spend most of my time fantasizing. if i could be payed for day-dreaming (as i prefer to call it) i would be incredibly successful.

yeh, as long as you don't start deluding yourself with it into believing it's real. last year i spent a lot of time on a particularly long drawn-out and non-specific day-dream where my flatmate left her boyfriend, who i thought wasn't good enough for her, and then told me that actually she'd like to be with me. i became very depressed because rationally i realised that it could never happen but i kept on thinking how happy i might be if it did.

mostly i day-dream about conversations i might have with people, or other ways in which a conversation i have had could have happened if i could go back and have them again. also, i day-dream about ways of bringing about my ideal society and what it would be like and how i might bring others, particularly my friends, around to my point of view. i very rarely have sexual fantacies - i think my sexual imagination has been ruined by porn.

i day-dream because i know that most of the things i'd like to do or would like to see happen won't, at least not in the way i want.

So Saipea, what are your answers to this question???????
What about those of us who go bonkers anyway? I think my constant fantasizing has sort of disorienting effect, like I'm not quite in phase with this world but stuck in one of my own creation. I cannot help but wonder "what if" about many situations. Whether it's healthy or not is immaterial; I'd do it anyway. Just occurs naturally. I fantasize about embracing my darker side actually to make things better. Sorta like fighting evil with evil. I've had premonitions about women I know, and a couple I don't. Those were dreams, though, if those count. My entire array of perspectives is based on the fantasies in which I constantly live.

1.How often do you fantasize?
How often...ugh, more than I ought to. Every other minute, really.

2. What do you think a "healthy" amount of time to be fantasizing?
Well, I can't really clock it very accurately, but I'd say fantasizing whenever you're bored really isn't unhealthy.

3. Is it "healthy" to fantasize?
As long as it isn't an obsession. Don't dwell on things you don't have yet; work on getting 'em. And if you can't get 'em, (as in something VIRTUALLY impossible,) just enjoy the fantasies, don't start to live/rely on them.

4. What do you fantasize about? Most often?
My future, sometimes. But more often than not, it's all about being someone else...how depressing is that? :(

5. Why do you fantasize?
Because I can enjoy it, I guess. That, and it lets me live the kind of life I want, away from the one I have. (That probably sounds more depressing than I want it to, but oh well. )

Is it "healthy" to fantasize?

How often do you fantasize?

Only when I'm awake, and not completely focussed on something else. Which means, most of the time.

What do you think is a "healthy" amount of time to be fantasizing?

I'm not sure. See my next answer.

Is it "healthy" to fantasize?

Yes, it helps me hang on to what remains of my sanity. As long as I know what is and isn't real, I see no problem.

What do you fantasize about? Most often?

Various things. I imagine having super-powers. I think about what if I had made different choices. Lately, I've been mentally living in the nations I'm creating for NS and thinking about how it would compare/contrast to the real world.

Why do you fantasize?

Because RL is boring. On my job, I have periods where it's mentally stimulating, but also long periods where it's boring. Ditto for my home life, my commute to and from work, etc. If I don't get enough mental stimulation, I start creating my own.

I fantasise a lot, mostly about career-related stuff...where I'd like to be working, the people I'd like to be working with, that kind of thing. I daydream about one day getting that PhD I'd always strived for. I imagine myself in the future - would I have the same friends, job, house etc.

I tend not to fantasise much about sexual or other personal things, probably as there's nothing in particular I want to change about my personal/sex life. There is other stuff though, but I can't think of it right now.

25-05-2006, 02:20
So Saipea, what are your answers to this question???????

I fantasize on average 1.5 hour a week-day and about 2.5 hours a weekend-day.

I think I fantasize more than average, but I think (in this case) what's natural for me is also what's healthy for me. On the other hand, fantasizing less than 1 hour a week doesn't seem very healthy to me.

I fantasize most about having control over the country in which I live (U.S.), the course of current events, and/or the general direction of humanity. Hypothetical Pinky & the Brain plots are my usual fantasy. Supernatural abilities, e.g. telekinesis, telepathy, and mind control are other favorites of mine, though they usually are used in conjunction with my world domination imaginings. Also, in mundane situations I might fantasize in order to make things more interesting (e.g. cars exploding on all sides of me on the freeway.) Sexual fantasies are my nighttime indulgences... I could be think of you. :D

I guess I fantasize for two reasons: to forget that I have no control over the unfortunate course of American politics, current events, humanity, etc., and to liven things up when I'm doing something boring.
