Help me out guys.

I need a device that will record phone calls made on one phoneline whenver a call is made. It's a standard US phone type. Anyhelp?

FYI, this is needed to get information on some thugs who are calling my house and conversing with a family member. That is all...

If you're going to do something like that the Anarchist's Cookbook gives you lots of advice on such things. Old, but basically sound advice.

But don't use it. Use the police.

you can give them permission to check to see who's calling your line. from there, their number and the pattern of calls.

If you are getting harrasing phone calls you can call the telephone company and let them know. Next time it happens record when and then tell them. I did it when I was getting barraged with calls that I didn't even understand, it was easy as cheese and didn't require I buy anything goofy.

But it is THEIR job to get the evidence.

I think that if you are recording a call, the recorder has to beep every so often or it is illegal... I would ask the police about that before doing any recording, because an illegal recording will not be admissible in court anyway.

I know that some answering machines will also record calls, and you can probably find one that does cheaper than trying to cobble together something.

Some states make it a crime to record a phone call unless both parties are aware of the recording.

Even if you're not a party to the conversation? See, the way the law read in Louisiana (I had a situation with a person who was recording my now ex-wife and his wife's conversations) about twelve years ago, the only way you can record is when you're on the line. Recording other's conversations, even if you pay the bill, is expressly forbidden if you're a private citizen. You may be in the clear, but you better make sure, because the fines for wiretapping are stiff, and if you don't think a pissed off teenager will fuck you over, even if she is your kid, you better think again.

Hey, why go to all the bother of recording her telephone calls if you are already sure of her guilt, and have determined that jailing is the only workable solution?

Seems to me that the most sensible thing for all involved would be for your family to imprison this minor in her your own house. Why go to all the bother of actually collecting evidence, if your mind is already made up?

Depends on the state, I believe, but in most cases, and certainly in federal cases, it's a felony.

Rent-a-pigs are your friends, they are for your own good.

Anyway DM if you arent VERY careful (or a minor too) you can get in far more trouble than your sister is in for illegal wiretapping. Make certain you are legally recording conversations before you do. If poison mushrooms are legal in your area try them to solve sibling rivalry issues. Just dont test them on yourself first for effectiveness.

WAS my sister. Whatever sweet girl I grew up with is no longer there and old a shell of that former person remains. God knows how much I love her but the sin and wickedness she lets into her life kills the rest of us too. Sort of sad, her drug habit damaged part of her brain and now she's paranoid all the time. Crazy. Hell, I even keylog myself. Just to be fair.

Depending what country you are in, it may be illegal to record telephone conversations unless you are an official of the state. Get the police to, or contact your phone company - I know in England most companies have procedures for dealing with malicious calls.
