Graduation Songs?

I'd really like to get other people's opinions on what songs they would like, or would've liked to have heard at their graduation. In Ireland graduations aren't a huge thing, nevertheless I'd really like to have some songs played at mine that are in some ways meaningful, or reflective of the times, the type of songs that make you think 'remember when..?'
I know there are some fairly obvious choices like Vitamin C's 'Gradutation Song (Friends Forever)' but I'm sure that there are songs that would work a lot better that haven't sprung to my mind. I'm really not an expert on music, so feel free to educate me. Any suggestions would be helpful!
There's been a bit of fuss about what songs to play at our graduation. Some foolish person/people want 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'. God only knows why.
I say 'So Long And Thanks For All The Fish' would be so much better.
Oh, and Pink Floyd's 'Brick in the Wall'

If your school is filled with retards and drama queens, I suggest 'This is the End' by The Doors.

How about Alice Cooper's "School's Out".

Thanks for replying, Ifreann. There's been a bit of a mini war in my year, too. A number of the preppy girls want to play Westlife's 'World of Our own' (why?!). It's either that or Jack Johnson's 'Better Together', so I think we'll have to go for the latter.
Munster, Heineken Cup Champions 2006!!!!!

Believe me, I'd love to play it, but it would break the real enthusiast's little hearts... I might get away with it, if I didn't have to run it by the school's Reverend first...

What's wrong with the traditional 'Gaudeamus igitur'?

I have a question. Who the fuck is Vitamin C?
"Pomp and Circumstance"... it's not really all that good of a song, but somebody had to say it... I mean, it's played at, I don't know, 99% of U.S. graduations?

I went to NUIM (yep, I'm a paddy too!). They had a string quartet playing classical music, which was nice, but then again, something along the lines of Queen's 'We are the Champions' or of Aretha Franklin's "Freedom' would also have been apt :D

May I suggest a few Irish drinking songs - Finnegans Wake, Seven Drunken Nights, The Old Dun Cow, as suitable, considering a large number of students get through their college years on alcohol and little else...

Yeah, 'We Are The Champions' was another suggestion at school. I thought everybody knew that song, turns out I was wrong. The school chaplain requested a preview...
Vitamin C is some American pop artist who's only really had one famous song. Look up 'Colleen Fitzpatrick'...

Are you serious? I didn't know that... I told you anything was helpful. At least if it only expanded my knowledge...

Actually funny story for our schoo, graduation.
They do a mass (I went to a convent school) for the graduates, and they wanted to use my pre art project - a clay model - in the offatory procession. I declined, with a damn good excuse - it was entitled 'The Reject'. (My teacher nearly wet herself when I told her)

Only if the entire class can name and point out the lake the Edmund Fitzgerald sunk in. *nods*

"Land of Hope and Glory" by the Sex Pistols. It's one of those things that gives a nod to "Pomp and Circumstance" and rejects it.

"Fuck School" by the Replacements.
"Pomp and Circumstance" was played at my graduation for the actual procession. During the ceremony itself, we (the choir, not the graduates) sang "Like an Eagle" by Carl Strommen and Vivaldi's "Gloria". The senior choir also sang a song by one of the guys in my class.

Ermm.... Elgar's "Graduation Song" is a fairly obvious one... Mind you, Monty Pythons "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" might be quite a good choice. The "Great Escape" theme might be a good one...

The natural choice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k0DLwtK3LE&search=Eve%206), for just about any occasion.
I'm surprised no one said: Greenday - Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)
Our song was the song that EVERY school used for the class of 1999: Baz Luhrmann- Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)
