I know it another World Cup thread but I felt this news deserved one of its' own.

Rooney is fit and back in full training. It was just on the tv news, although I can find a web story to link to I'll add one as soon as I do.

So what think you all of Englands chances of winning the thing now.

This brings to an end what I can contribute to this thread.

He looks like Shrek, and this will displease the referees' wives, making the refs turn against us.

We will now lose.

Substituting for him in this event will be Mickey Rooney.

hmmmmm, I was hoping for some more enthusiastic responses to this news.

Oh, and be careful calling him ugly, have you seen the size of him, he's massive...and his brother and father are boxers :p

Still not a chance in hell. 'England has a good side, they could really do well this time.' is what I hear every time and they screw up every time. They're really not as good as everyone thinks they are. And it takes more than just good players to build a winning team.

Ah, so they're like the Ottawa Senators of soccer.

I'm sure that we can get some English male supermodels to play, and they'd be about as skillful and would also get the crowd on their side. I imagine.

I'm backing England all the way!!
to the quarter final that is. Where they'll invariably get knocked out and we'll have to put up with weeks of wailing and teeth-gnashing about how hard done by they were.

Didn't they win the stanley cup somewhere in the last few years?

Beckham is in the first team, but wright phillips isnt even in the squad, even though he should be first choice for his position. Sven is a dumbass, and we cant beat Brazil anyway. Our only hope is that Argentina or portugal or some other cheating latinos knock them out like in 66 when they kicked the shit out of Pele. Then we can beat those losers instead and win the cup!

SWp hasn't played that much this season and looked poor when he has played. Lennon and Beckham have both played more often and better for their clubs.

I'm glad for Rooney's sake but the idea that we can't win it without him is disturbing. We have plenty of good players but in all honesty, we just are not good enough to win the cup.

This would be a good place to advertise the 29th NS World Cup Sign-ups (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=482039), right? ;)

Still no sign of this news on the Beeb website.

Sounds made up to me - anyone got a link?

England have got a great chance of winning this world cup: Rooney (if fit), Terry, Lampard, Gerrard, Joe Cole are all world class players. We are a force to be reckoned with this year, Rooney or no Rooney.

Fartsniffage, you are telling naughty lies.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will undergo a scan on 25 May which may determine whether he is fit to play for England at the World Cup.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "After 25 May we will know much more about what will happen with Wayne.

Rooney is continuing to receive treatment on his injury in Manchester and has not joined up with his international colleagues at their Portugal training camp this week.

I simply don't believe it. Either the injury was not what it ws claimed to be (broken fourth metatarsal) or this report is false. That type of injury takes a MINIMUM of six weeks to heal, and often takes six months.

Wouldn't have surprised me if it was a ruse, except that Ferguson is involved and he doesn't like England enough to lie for them. As I said above, it seems I misunderstood the story. I'm not happy.

Rooney is still very young. If he misses the world cup this time it will not be the end of the world for him. On the bright side, if Walcott comes through, then I can see England having a strike partnership to be truly feared in the 2010 cup to go alongside the midfield and defence that will still be there.

I don't think England will win, with or without Rooney. They have a decent squad & will most likely get to the final rounds, but won't be good enough to win it.
