Why don't we force companies to pay the same to illegal immigrant workers as they would US citizens?

Because politicians won't hurt big buisness.

And that wouldn't completely solve the problem, either. A big part of it, but not all.

Why don't we just nuke every other country in the world? That'll be just as effective, and politicians are more likely to do it to boot.

If you paid illegal immigrants the same as a US citizen, you would get more illegal immigrants.

A lot of Americans won't take a job as a fruit picker, ditch digger, or day laborer - even at regular US wages for such a job.

There are people in Herndon right now who would rather not work for 17 dollars an hour as a day laborer - because the job is hot, strenuous, and "beneath them".

Why don't we build robots to pick fruit? Show some American ingenuity.

We already replaced a lot of auto workers and factory workers with robots.

I think that picking fruit is a bit more involved. Trees are irregular, and the fruit is not always in the same spot on the limbs.

I think the law does require illigals (and everybody) to receive minimum wage.
The problem is that if you complain, one of two things will happen:
The company will send you back to Mexico
The government will send you back to Mexico

Fun.

Right now, I would gladly throw my university diploma and career out of the window, to take a job as a fruit picker in the countryside for 17 dollars an hour. Don't know how long I could take it but it certainly isn't beneath me...

Go on then. I dare you

Thing is, I've already kind-of-done it. Just not sure what I am doing next...

Yeah, I don't believe that immigrants "do the jobs Americans won't do". I think they do the jobs businesses don't want to pay Americans to do... but I suppose that's a lot cheaper.

Well, uh, good then. Well done you...

In Herndon, you can show up at the day laborer center here, and get a job RIGHT NOW for 17 dollars an hour.

Do I ever see any of the black, unemployed people in the housing project over in Reston (a few miles away) ever show up there?

No.

No.

They most likely don't even know about it.

They most likely don't even know about it.
They most certainly do. They were told about it in person by people from the center.

I hate to be dreadfully obviouse, but just how do you force a company, looking to save money on employment (willing to engage in illegally hiring undocumented workers) to pay someone who is illegally in the country an equal pay to say, a citizen ?

Technology advances fast. Meanwhile let the unemployed people already in USA do it or criminals or people who was penalized with community service...

You mean, pay 'em zero, and not give 'em a job at all?
