Countries are not the right type of thing to describe as being strong.

I now have this image in my head of Germany arm wrestling with India

The USA is clearly the strongest RL country. I don't know what the other 9 would be. The EU isn't really a country, so I'd say China is probably #2. Russia's is still pretty strong militarily, but it's economy sux. Japan's another strong one.

1) America: ridiculously uber army and has large control over global economy

2) Russia: large army and reasonably self sufficient

3) Germany: Great technology, great economic strength

4+5) tie between Britain and France: experienced forces, strong economically and strong influence across the globe

6) tie between Japan and South Korea: technologically advanced, able to dominate Asian politics

7) Brazil: weak in most areas but significant influence to all of South America

8) India: Strong Military and economic potential but affected by overpopulation, backwardness in some areas and high rich-poor divides

9) China: strong military potential but very technologically backwards and lacking in political influence against non-neighbouring nations

10) North Korea: well prepared for conflict, large military for size and unaffected by most global economic activity terrible however in all other areas

3. China (Billion man march)
4-5. India/Pakistan (i dunno who goes where)
6-7. England/France (Good old allies)
8. Germany

1. United States
2. China
3. Germany
4. Japan
5. Russia
6. United Kingdom
7. India
8. Indonesia
9. Brazil
10. Iran

The first two, I think, are obvious. Germany and Japan have more econmic clout than people give them credit for. Russia is still huge, but it's largely impotent given its internal chaos. The UK still has very long arms, even though it no longer has its empire. India is an enormous economy, and as a democracy it gets more leeway from the west than China does. Brazil dominates its region. The same goes for Indonesia and Iran; they are major forces in the world.

I placed India over China because I believe they are going to emerge as dominant due to the strength of their government, their superior protections for human rights and political freedom, and their commitment to high tech. Also, lower energy intensity and much more equitable income distribution give them an edge over China; they will also avoid the demographic problems China has.

Would you mess with a country that has a yin-yang shield on its flag?
