Poll coming. Polls take a few minutes, people. They don't magically appear out of nowhere.

Someone voted for all the options I see.

Nanny State mentality and the resultant fall of personal responsibility is my favorite thing to point the fickle finger of blame at today.

Out of those, its either politics getting involved in peoples private lives, or jack thompson, which is essentially the same thing. When the views of a person or group begin to affect another person or groups rights, that is a problem. If I want to marry another man and play grand theft auto, who's business is it but mine? No ones!

I'm a little confused. How can "issues" like marriage/abortion harm society?

Do you mean politicisation of these issues,* or infighting between different factions concerning the issues, or just that there is marriage/abortion or the wrong kind of marriage/abortion?

My vote goes to:

intolerance

* because isn't that covered by the next option?

I selected the political issues option.

So you're blaming the Nanny State?

Irony it's not just for breakfast anymore!

The biggest threat I can imagine would be a lack of proper education.

The intrusion of private money into election campaigns and political lobbying hurts the most. Without that government could focus on governing, rather than paying back favors to big contributors.

- The blurring of the lines between entertainment and information.
- The development of what I like to call "War as Spectator Sport."

i voted for the first one cuz i think perceived threats enable governments to pull the wool over the populaces eyes so they don't notice other shit that is actually happening and so the voters will agree to giving greater control and authority to the government.

No, he's blaming the Nanny State mentality. The nanny state is by it's very nature going to fuck up. The problem is all those idiots out there who think it's the solution.

Yeah, I mean it pretty much turned the Swedes into a bunch of stone-aged phillistines. Good thing we've dodged that bullet.

I'll agree with that. The nanny state mentality that says the government needs to protect me from my own stupidity, because I can't help that I'm an idiot.

No, the Nanny State mentality and what I perceive to be the direct results of it are what I think cause greatest harm to society. There is no Nanny State as such. It is a subtle difference, you might not have noticed it.

Now, ironically, Ive some questions for you.

What pray tell is a proper education and can one of them teach a person to read thread titles? What does the "biggest threat you can imagine" have to do with what you think actually does harm society?
