If you could design ANY game...

If you could design any game (you wouldn't have to program) what would it be?
The ultimate motorsport game.
Rather like the later Toca games, you start off at the bottom in karting in your home country. You can then, if you turn out to be good enough, make it into any motorsport discipline...you can go into endurance racing, NASCAR, touring cars, open wheelers...even into motorbikes I would hope.
Once you hit your mid to late 30s you would have to retire from the top flight sport you ended up in...you could either then quit, or go into another lower series, or go into team or driver management. You would also have the opportunity of 'doing a Surtees' and switching from bikes to cars, and vice versa. There would be hundreds of race circuits all over the world...from the local kart track to the big time F1, MotoGP, or IRL (or similar) circuits.
If you quit then the games over.
If you go into a lesser series, you might end up in DTM, or in the GP Masters, or in A1 GP, or anything worldwide of that type. Eventually you would get too old for even that, and be forced into team or driver management.
If you go into team management you can invest into a small team in a domestic championship and build it from there, or you can invest straight into a top flight F1, Nascar, IRL etc. team and try and win with it, or start your own team either way. Obviously, what you go into depends on how much money you made during your driving career. If your team goes bankrupt try driver management.
If you go into driver management, you can scout the world kart, or starter single seater, series and pick a driver to manage. If he's interested, you're then in charge of getting him to the top flight. Once he retires from racing you're game is over, or you could go to team management.
Basically, it would be the greatest game ever.

I'd try for an extremely expansive space game. Capable of playing from the lone bounty hunter/smuggler to the ruler of a vast intersteller empire. Lots of guns, lots of ships, and I would hope lots of fun.

Clearly you should start listening to the mix.
Also...hmmm...A Sim planet type game, but awesomer. It's a small planet, poulation wouldn't go over maybe 25,000. but they're actual people, withh...simple personalities. Also, the planet is strangely dense, so it can have an atmosphere, and there'd be weather and...ummm. Yeah, you could basicall do stuff to the world...follow a guy's life around, own a business, a country, mess around in a deity-like fashion. Stuff.
An age of Empires/Civilization type game, except on a massive globe instead of a flat map.
There are no turns, time just passes, and everything takes a certain time to move, or to be built, or to do things...and they can be set back by the weather, natural disaster etc...
Proper pitched battles, Rome Total War style.
About 60 or 65 starting tribes, some amalgamating, others splitting up.
More realistic diplomacy as well.
In short, more like real life, and huge. And complicated.

Yeah, that too. put that in my game, stuff like that. Like a mini-planet, all realistic and stuff...
If you could design any game (you wouldn't have to program) what would it be?
A console game (X-Box in particular) for toddlers and preschoolers. They could learn dexterity, alphabet, counting, shapes, etc. and have just as much fun as their older siblings have playing on the TV.

Although, if you wait for Spore, you may get most of what you want.

Yeah, I read about Spore. It sounds really cool.
Although my game would be more like Civ in that you start off as the controller of a tribe, and guide them throughout the game, rather than guiding a whole species.
I think in mine as well, parts of your tribe could leave and form another new tribe, or could join an existing one, or other tribes could want to join yours. So many possibilities.

I'm counting on it not haveing to be programed. And mine would be even more complex than Spore! Do planets on spore have funtioning atmospheres? It'll track all the thingies...and...umm...use chaos theory! Yes! Bwahahahaha! Course, first in need something going on in the way of PetaFLOPS.

If I could design any game I wanted to, I would make a Phantom of the Opera game in which the player could play as the Phantom and compose, build traps, fend off intruders with the Punjab lasso and the "siren's trap," and go through the plot of the novel. Or maybe the player could play as Christine, Raoul, or maybe even the Persian. That would be an awesome game.

Probably a massively multiplayer real time strategy game. The map is the size of a planet - literally. You start with a small band of loyal people, nadm ust carve yourself some land/collect resources to maintain your military. While you're offline, the planet would automagically reshape to exclude any land you currently control, so you won't get invaded while you're not there.
In all honesty, I would make a futuristic Ninja Gaiden. I can imagine the wierdness of that.

A space game of huge proportions.
Imagine a universe 100 times larger than EVE Online.
Different factions you could immerse yourself in just like Oblivion and gain ranks and reputation.
However, the main feature of this game would be it's space battles. You can be anything from a engineer or captain. As a captain you have thousands of NPC's under your command, flooding you with messeges. As a fighter pilot, you'd be 1 of thousands in a epic space battle. Your actions can shape a world and the universe itself. With every space battle your faction wins, you win favor ranks and money. Even ladies and clout with brass hehe.
Call of duty meets space in a sense, add in Oblivion's rich environment and you have a very detailed and complicated game.
I would make an RPG based in the world of Middle Earth, but using maps, characters, and story lines from the Silmarillion. The game would definitely use elements of Tolkein's Silmarillion, and I would probably base the main storyline on Beren's quest for the Silmarils, but the game as a whole would be very nonlinear and involve a ton of other quests based on the world, but not necessarily involving Tolkein's stories.
I am disappointed that there has yet to be a great Middle Earth game made. Some out there are decent, but none that have lived up to the hype. And my goal in life is to find one other person who played the Lord of the Rings for the Apple IIGS (on a real floppy disk) where you were Frodo and all you did was tell him where to go on the map and then he walked across screens (picking up the rest of the Fellowship on the way). At night your party would sit by a fire and sleep for about 20 minutes real-time. Most boring game ever, but the music was good.
As a fighter pilot, you'd be 1 of thousands in a epic space battle.
with unlimited space-ships, so you didn't need to buy them everytime you were blown to pieces but you'd get better ones as you'd get promoted... yes-yes...
I'd want to design a MASSIVE one-player first-person RPG, taking place in present time or near in the future.
Swords would be replaced with guns, alchemy replaced with chemistry and mechanics, and spells replaced with "genetically engineered abilities".
You would simply be another gun-monkey in the big city, working for the various crime-lords, politicians, government officials and everyday citizens. There an "end" but it is based completely upon your choices in game; what groups you worked with, how you completed your objectives, etc. This is a game that would take at least 100 hours of continuous gameplay to complete, and even more if you want EVERYTHING completed.
Think of it as Oblivion with a Grand Theft Auto setting.
Mine would be an RTS. I had an idea recently: Mad Science Wars
Basically, the scientists have used their knowledge to dominate much of the globe. Only one thing remains between them and world domination (and eternal funding) - each other.
You command either the Biologists (who have genetically engineered super-soldiers and mutated beasts), Chemists (who have poisons, super armor, and mega explosions), or Physicists (who have lasers, plasma, particle beams, and nukes) in a mad science mayhem.
I actually went and designed the stats for all the units in the game. There's even a way to mutate biological units.

Mine would be a music band simulator.
You would basically make a character and choose your "class" (instrument), and then you would try to form your own band and slowly make your way from the small clubs to the sold-out concerts, all the while building up your skills and beating your rivals. You can go to any show or concert, and earn money to buy improvement for your band members: new strings, new drums, and stuff like that.
The final boss would be one of your former close friends, who fell victim to the large amounts of money and fame, and you will have to show them otherwise by using your music skills! :D

Things very similar to this have already been stated, but i want to have my say:
You start with a single family of fighters in the primordial backwaters of time (maybe in sub-sahara africa), and you micro them, commando style, until you capture a village, then a town, then a city, and so on. all this would be online, like the "bubble world" stated previously. as you capture cities, you can design your troops' armour, weapons, and so on much like Impossible Creatures. you continue to expand, and time continues to advance forward. you go through epocs, like the rise of nations series or Age of Empires, and since you make your own troop types and special abilities, and the list of customizations in constantly being patched, you in a since create you own tech-tree eventually, it gets to space combat and you battle for whole planets much the same way you origionally did for cities. the graphics should be Rome: Total War style. Diplomancy would also have many options, as you could directly chat with people you wanted to treat with.

That actually sounds fun. I'd play it.
Maybe I should send my ideas to a gaming company. Probably Blizzard, in this case - I used Starcraft units as a baseline for Mad Science Wars units - for instance, that base infantry in both games have ~50-80 hit points is no coincidence.

I'd make an insanely detailed RPG, and I mean insane. You would be able to completely customise your character (a la Oblivion, but including body shape and size, and an easier customisation format), and the graphics would be the bomb. Everything would be the max in realistic looking, eg. things like hair would move as seperate strands, not like clumps.
Yeah, I'm a sucker for detail :p
I think i'd have to get someone else to come up with the storyline tho, lol. I'd be too busy making everything look perfect.:D
If you could design any game (you wouldn't have to program) what would it be?I have two main ideas for games, one is an RPG, the other a space empire resource management game (which is far easier to make).
There's some really clever ideas in it which I won't divulge in case I ever do get around to making them :p

The Ultimate Sword Fighting Game
Using a controller similar controller to the Nintendo Wii, but properly wieghted and balanced to act like a proper sword.
You would chose your style to begin with, from a mossive range covering western, asian, eastern martial arts.
You would start with proper foot work and training, teaching you how to move and dodge blows.
Then move on to the use of the sword etc etc, choosing from all different kinds of swords, such as sabres, longswords, japanese swords (tachi's, Katana's etc) etc etc.
You would fight over a varity of terrain, multi player battles and duels etc.
Would be so cool.
...I would design "Spore."

I would design a free online Middle-earth stratagy game. Where you pick a side in the War of the Ring, Third Age(Eg. Isenguard, Elves, Hobbits, Men, Mordor) and try to survive. Like through treaties, war, resource management, etc.

MMORPG, set in a low-fantasy world, with roughly 1700s level tech. Magic and technology aren't in opposition but vaguely related. Expect wizards with pistols and elves defending their forests in mixed rifle/archer teams. Orcs and goblins aren't inheriantly evil, nor are dark elves.
There would be a variety of mounts available; riding dogs, chocobos, ponies, horses and wargs. Characters would be able to develop without ever entering combat, working and transacting would give experience. One could apply for jobs, join a guild, ect... As all characters would hold a citizenship, in theory they could be able to affect the governments, possibly even to the point of some countries being democracies, and players running their governments.
Hopefully it would attract a fanbase that actually role-plays, as opposed to just powergamers.

Kinda like the first reply.. Except a rugby game.
Start from 5-6years playing for your little club. Working your way through the grades.. Impressing coaches and making teams. However, I hate games in which you can always win. If you don't train enough or put in enough hard work-you don't make teams and don't advance.
Also, you don't control the whole team like most other rugby games-just your guy/girl. Play shit and you'll get no game time. You could even snap your neck!
Ahh, so many thoughts I can't get them all down! Such an awesome game.

A huuuge physics engine. Think HL2 times a hundred. Every object in the game would behave realistically to the atmosphere, gravity, everything. Everything would be destroyable. If you shot an RPG-7 at a building, every brick and piece of glass it ws made of would react to the explosion. Dust would not be particles, but actual small 3d objects that settled down after a while! :D
Water and reflections would be top notch. Some sort of gasoline engine too, so you can soak buildings in gas and put them on fire(realistic fire too) Add as many weapons as you can(normal weaponry, light sabers, gravity guns, mini black hole launchers, you name it) and a multiplayer function that could host up to 1000+ players at the same HUGE map, and you're in for the fragfest of the century.
SPORE but with them all worshipping me mwahahahaha
A game where you fight in an anarchist revolution. Maybe a first person shooter or some kind of strategy game. You could battle military dictators, corrupt CEOs, neo-conservatives, etc.

A three-dimensional city simulator that allows massive maps (I'm talking tens of thousands of square miles, like Beijing and Shanghai).
And I want it to be realistic with many economic options, unlike the Sim City series, which is more of a cartoonish approach to city building.
