SYDNEY, Australia -- New Zealand's not for sale.

A prankster in neighboring Australia listed the nation of New Zealand on eBay.

Bidding rose to more than $2,300 before the Internet auction site pulled the plug on the bogus listing.

There were more than 20 bids.

An eBay Australia spokesman said that, clearly, the South Pacific nation isn't for sale.

There's an intense rivalry between New Zealand and Australia.

I wonder what the craziest things are that've been put on ebay...

"In September 2004, the owner of MagicGoat.com sold the contents of his trash can to a middle school language arts teacher, who had her students write essays about the trash. [15]"

Amusing.

I don't remember when this was, but I think a FAKE XBox 360 BOX was sold for I think it was 7,000 dollars. That, or 700. I forgot. The seller guy even said over and over that it was a fake box... I don't remember if this happened or not...

It shows how clinically depressingly stupid most human beings are that even a subset of 20/6,000,000,000 would be so credulous as to bid on a country.

I would have known instantly it was fake.

$2,300 is way too much money for it to really be New Zealand.

Either that or they saw it was a joke so put bids in to continue the joke.
