If you were Prime Minister or President...

what would you do for your country?

If I were Prime Minister of Canada I'd...

-Nationalize oil & other major corporations (including insurance companies, no more of that men pay more than women in car insurance bullshit. Everyone would be equal in the government's eye).
-Make provincial governments my puppet governments.
-Outlaw the Bloc Quebecois & other separatist groups
-Jail separatists for treason
-Give the First Nations a seat at the UN and their own parliament in Canada that works with our current parliament.
-Make all education free, including University/College
-Outlaw private health-care & private schools.
-Set up a Five-Year-Plan to eliminate poverty
-pull Canada out of NATO; take a neutral stance on world issues
-Outlaw the Catholic Church
-End free trade with the USA
-increase immigration to build our industrial sector
-Significantly increase immigration in Quebec to make the French a smaller minority than they are now, thus ending the separatist movement.
-Legalize soft drugs (i.e. marijuana, mushrooms) and tax the hell out of them
-Often criticize the USA, especially their government
-Trade more with Cuba, China, India & Europe
-Make it easier for me to achieve a majority government, more often
-purge members of my party that disagree with me, exile them to Nunavut.
-set up a national daycare
-force doctors to stay in Canada
-outlaw private ownership of the Media, things such as newspapers & television would be handed over to organizations like the Farmers Association and the political parties instead of corporations and corrupt individuals.
-Make every vote a free vote in the House of Commons
-Renew the unions so that the Mob doesn't own them anymore
-increase a police and military presence in our daily lives (i.e. checkpoints every where you go to crack down on crime)
-Send criminals to forced labour
-Send high school drop-outs to forced labour
-Send separatist to forced labour
-Send the opposition to forced labour
-Send spies to forced labour
-Send terrorists to forced labour
-Send conservatives to forced labour
-Send Bush/Harper supporters to forced labour
-Send Brain Mulroney to forced labour
-Basically, send anyone that disgarees with me to forced labour

Pretty radical eh? Well let's see if you guys can do any better. :p

You'd go broke. And your "everybody equal" line is crap - obviously poor people are more equal than reach people. They get to keep their stuff, rich people don't.

If I was Chancellor of Germany, I'd
End all censorship. No more FSK18+ and all that crap.
Adopt the FDP's tax policy (three levels, 12%, 25%, 35% - cut all the other crap). Aim for a low flat tax in the future.
Completely scrap the education system and start again - more private schools, no more (virtually) free uni and so on.
Reform Federalism. I don't need state governments to stand in my way.
Get rid of all those crap regulations.
Make it even easier to hire and fire people. Reduce welfare to absolute minimum, instead put that money in rewarding firms for hiring and helping the unemployed find jobs.
Quit with all this pointless talk in the EU and cut to the chase. Present a reform plan along the lines of more direct EU democracy. Fight the CAP.
Give the military a boost for a few years to invest in properly changing with the times. Get rid of compulsory military service.
Subsidise women to have both a job and children.
Make immigration much easier - in fact, the only criteria should be that applicants don't have a criminal record, and that they won't be eligible for welfare for a year or two.

I can probably think of more...

Simple really. I would abolish the courts and congress, and rule over my people as a benevolent dictator who doesn't bother if Joe is fucking Jack, and will let you do as you please, so long as I have the final say on laws.

I will expect however, that should I start to turn into a Stalin, that I will be immediately "suicided".

Kind of a psudo-anarchist dictatorship if that makes any sense.

I would appoint people who were actually experts in their field to run the government, reduce regulation powers of the FCC and spend the next four years in the Rose Garden drinking beer. :)

Edit: Yes, I will have sex with interns. But I won't lie about it. :)

Assassinated on Saturday...
And buried on Sunday.

jailing peeps for nothing isn't very stereotypically canadian

Although i approve of your handling of the separitists. (Either separate or STFU!!!!!!)

and i agree with increasin pop'n with immigration and populating the north
let's not cut off US ties just yet...that needs to be done slowly

the military needs MUCH more funding but i don't like miltary check points unless there's like some dangerous criminal or something out there

what would you do for your country?

If I were Prime Minister of Canada I'd... *snip*

Egads! Gadzooks! Your vision of Canada is scary...

Mikesburg's Plan for Canada:

1) Reform our outdated Parliamentary sytem:
a) Turn Parliamentary elections into a proportional representation system based on voter lists and regional electoral zones. The Prime Minister is the leader of the largest party that can forge an alliance based on compromise with smaller parties.
b) Make the Senate electable based on regional representation, trying to strike a balance between the regions. Make Senators 'non-partisan', and directly responsible to their constituents, as opposed to a party.
c) Ensure fixed election dates, institute the ability to recall unpopular elected officials, and make all parliamentary actions transparent and open to the public.
d) Allow legislation to be put forth in either the senate or parliament, with approval needed by both houses. End the idea of an 'upper' and 'lower' house.

2) Nationalize all business related to the acquisition of natural resources. Keep distribution of natural resources in private hands. Maintain environmental safegaurds by having our government directly in control of natural resource acquisition.

3) Remove the obligation of the taxpayer to fund the CBC. We're past the point where we need a massive publicly funded media.

4) Remove the Official Languages Act and allow the provinces to dictate official languages if they so choose.

5) Define the strict definition of what is the responsibility of provincial vs. federal government.

6) Rebuild and refund our military. Open all military deployments to public debate prior to sending our men and women overseas.

7) Make voting mandatory, on penalty of a minor fine. Begin the voting age at 16, and make civics courses compulsory in high school.

8) Legalize soft drugs. Heavily increase the policing of the distribution and posession of hard drugs.

9) Internationally, push the idea of free trade with nations of similar levels of development. Push the idea of a league of democracies, as a possible alternative to the UN.

10) Return to older banking practices, by demanding that private banking institutions keep a security with the Bank of Canada, and have all government bank loans be provided by the Bank of Canada rather than private banks at rediculous interest rates.

11) Use Keynesian methods to decrease unemployment rather than use the same funds for welfare. (Perhaps this would be a provincial realm anyway.)

12) Incarcerate Tremerica and force him into manual labour. ;)

most of what any elected official, or even absolute king for that matter, gets to do, is pretty much the same thing as any lobbyist does. with the one exception being able to vote and or get the final go or no go veto on it.

that being said, there are certainly policies i would favor more then others, that might be in the perview of a head of state to influence signifigantly.

among these i would favor weaning energy research and production, mostly by incentive policies rather then fiate mandates, away from the use of combustion and more in the direction of favoring wind, solar, and hydro.

and the same goes for all tangable infrastucture, heading it the direction of greater environmental harmony. that includes something we haven't seen a lot of and that is economicly viable 'people sized' guideway based transportation systems.

eliminating border restrictions and building codes for rural owner builders would be high on my list of domestic policies.

i would actively promote as international law that any unarmed civilian, not convicted of a major nonpolitical felony, not be restricted in any way from crossing any border in any direction at any place, at any time, for any reason.

and that anyone, whether by immigration or birth, living within the boundries of any nation, have the same rights, privelages and responsibilitys as any other person doing so.

for example in isreal this would make all palistinians israeli citizens, and allow them to elect p.l.o. and hamas and any other candidates they care to come up with to seats in the knnisit. in return of course they would be bound by the same laws as any other israeli citizen.

'welfare' and infrastructure are the only reason to have a government. any government in any form.

infrastructure would be free to everyone, even if it had to depend on volunteers to make and keep it so.

and that includes broadband access to the internet. or some kind of an internet.

i would move to recognize the legitimate authorty of tribal elders over the traditional territories of their cultures. this would essentialy be the government at the county or shire level.

individual villages and neighborhoods would be allowed and even encouraged to go their own way on idiological and economic issues.

belief would of course be an individual matter, neither sanctioned nor censured by the state.

things like health care and housing fall under both welfare and infrastructure.

another thing i would favor and encourage is the lowering of all human fertility accross the board without bias or exception.

Pretty much what he said, only for the US and what applies to it.

Well, accept for the rewarding firms part, I don’t like that one bit.

As for the US’s military, I’d probably cut funding gradually until we’re only paying for a small defensive force and the already promised pensions.

Also, replace the EU stuff with aggressive negotiation of free trade pacts with anybody who’s willing.

To the OP:
I don't beleive I've ever seen a more reactionary socialist in my life.

True. But Germany is a specific case, because unemployment is so high right now. Even if we dropped all regulations today, it would still take months, probably years, for it to come down.

Until then you suddenly have five million unemployed people without welfare...

PM of Britain.

1. enact proportional representation.
2. introduce a green-energy-ratio: for every 10 megawat of non-green power, power-suppliers must build, maintain and operate 3.33 megawat of green power.
3. ban all religious apparel in public space.
4. resign.

Yeah, but I'd rather ruin my reputation trying to sort out the NHS than ruin it getting involved in a war like Iraq.
