What are some foods/drinks you've always wanted to try, but couldn't?
I want to try whale and absinthe.

I've always wondered what human would taste like. I'd consider having my leg amputated, cooked and served to me on my deathbed.

I am with you on the absinthe... but I'll pass on whale. Other than that, really expensive caviar, blowfish and Tibetan cuisine (preferably in Tibet).

Deep fried Dodo bird
Also I just saw a KFC commercial for heart attacks
mashed potatoes topped with sweet corn topped with fried chicken fillet strips topped with gravy topped with 3 shredded cheeses.
I want one!

Monkey brains:eek: I wanna know why some people eat it.

I've always had this morbid curiosity about eating something alive. I'm not quite sure if I'd be able to get it down though, and I'm almost positive that I wouldn't be able to keep it down. But since this appears to be one of those problem-free fantasy threads, yeah: a live mammal of some sort. Maybe a perrson or a deer.
Or goats, goats are always good for a laugh.

Dog and witchetty grubs are two that come to mind right away. Whale wasn't that great IMO, but I know several posters here who claim to like it. The biggest problem (aside from the emdangered status issue) is the problem of mercury contamination. It's to the point that most marine mammals generally have dangerously high concentrations. :(

How about a live octopus, wrapped around a stick? It could kill you, but what is gastronomy without the risk?

I could get that in Korea (well, not the stick, and I believe they chop it up first, but its still a live octopus), which somewhat reduces the novelty of the concept.
It wouldn't work, anyway, I don't eat anything that spends a signifigant part of its life cycle underwater.

I sort of have the feeling that the goat would be the appetiser and I the main dish.
Hmmm, I guess I would like to try some native foods in Africa.
I tried mopane worms (http://www.travel.za.net/images/south%20africa%20mopane.jpg) when I was living in Botswana. Didn't really like them - apart from the whole idea of eating a caterpillar, they didn't really taste like much.
I always wanted to try durian (http://www.fruitlovers.com/Durian.jpg) when I was in Malaysia, but I could never bring myself to get past the smell.

Make sure you have a strong constitution and willpower roll.
Learn from the lesson of the president of the United States. The monkey won.
Too bad he already had so many simian characteristics to begin with ... he was doomed.
And now we all are.

Mr. Jenkens: She's bloody dying and all you bring us is lupines. All we've eaten mate for the last four bleeding weeks is lupine soup, roast lupine, steamed lupine, braised lupine in lupine sauce, lupine in the basket with sauteed lupines, lupine meringue pie, lupine sorbet... We sit on lupines, we sleep in lupines, we feed the cat on lupines, we burn lupines, we even wear the bloody things!
Dennis Moore: Looks very smart.
Mr. Jenkens: Oh shut up! We're sick to death with the stench of them. (His cat dies.) Look! The cat's just choked itself to death on them! I don't care if I never see another lupin till the day I die! Why don't you go out and steal something useful!
I want to try whale and absinthe.
Absinthe is nothing much special. I tried it after they relegalized it in France.
The whale hunting ban should be enforced more strongly. Nevertheless if the craving gets too overwhelming:

there are several resturants in Japan that serve fish... while it's still alive.
they also serve squid and octopus on a stick... still fresh from the tank.
then there are cockroaches... Gillian Andersen (Skully from the X-Files) actually ate one on the set... while the cameras were rolling.
What I wanna eat... just once... and probably only once... and it might be the last thing I eat...
Fugu Sushi.... made by a chef licenced to make them.

if ever you're in hawaii... I'll introduce you to the idea of eating of sashimi.
I've actually found a step plan that kinda works.
Oh, and I assume you're adding Sushi to that as well.

absinthe just tastes like a combination of Liquorice and burning.
It might taste better with sugar and ice (like you're supposed to) rather than just shooting it back..
